There comes a point in the life of an individual when he will look back at where his is coming from and compare it to where he is, and all he could say is "I am grateful." It is true that I may not have gotten to where I had wanted to, but the truth is that I have left where I used to be. For this, I cannot but be grateful. For the gift of life to see and celebrate another year, not because I am more qualified than the people that have gone, but simply because of privileges, this is more than an enough reason to be joyful.
Over the years, and as I am getting older and wiser, I have come to appreciate the gift of life more than ever before. This is because every other thing will fall into place with time as long as there is life. Of course, even our hope is built on the fact that we have life. This has kept me going for the years because of the knowledge that there is a reason for the sustenance of life itself - to fulfil purpose. You will agree with me that even though life has challenges, it is better than absence of life itself. At least, the thoughts of facing and overcoming the challenges will kept our hopes running.
Today, I am a year older and I cannot express gratitude enough for it. First, for the gift of life, then for the gift of family and friends. Yes, family and friends form part of what make us who we are. We feel loved, cherished, and have identity because of the family and friends we are part of. For this, I am very grateful. If not for family and friends, life would not have made as much meaning as it has, because their counsel made me wiser, their support made me stronger, their help made me stand strong, their corrections made me better, and their companionship made me feel belonged.
I have taken a quick reflection about my life and I have come to this realisation; even though I may not have gotten all the good things I have ever wished for yet, I cannot deny the fact that there are many good things which I have gotten that I never even wished for. Each day that passes, there is always a reason to smile and also make others to smile too. Just like I normally say "causing others to smile will also consolidate on our own smile." This is part of the reasons I have made the resolution to put smiles on the face of at least one person a day, because that will be what will matter at the end.
Birthday is an opportunity to recount and celebrate happy moments, and to count our blessings one by one. When one starts to count their blessings, they will discover that they are actually blessed beyond measures, because many of the things we tend to overlook as inconsequential are blessings in disguise.
On this special day, I wish to express my deepest gratitude to my family, my friends, and to everyone that has been of assistance and help to me in anyway and in any capacity to make my life's journey easier and better, and also those that have stood by my side and made me to stand tall. Not forgetting my acquaintances, buddies and everyone that has been of positive influence to me, my appreciation goes to you all. Space and time will not be enough to list all of you, but I am sincerely appreciative of you all.
The same way you have made me to smile, you all will have reasons to smile. They say that "light comes after the tunnel," but with you all, there is light even inside the tunnel. I love you all.
