Medical kidnapping - A real threat for parents.

What is Medical Kidnapping?

The community of familyprotection was started by @canadian-coconut and @markwhitham on the steemit platform to raise awareness of this sickening practice in countries worldwide. Its common practice in the United States, Canada, Europe and even in Russia.
There is people that is on Hive that have
first-hand experience of this and their nightmare is still carrying on.
Some others were lucky and got their kid/s back after a hell of a battle. Familyprotection contributed financially towards some of these cases.
This awareness was carried over to the Hive platform where @canadian-coconut still support this initiative. From the first time that I heard of this, I was horrified and also start to try and raise awareness every which way I can.
We are very fortunate that in South Africa we don't have this problem yet.

How does Medical Kidnapping happen?

It happens when good parents take their child to the doctor or emergency room and the doctors and or other medical staff disagree with parents about the diagnosis or the treatment.

A very good example of this is when parents of a newborn baby don't want their baby to get vaccinated then the doctor report them to be irresponsible.

The hospital can work with the Department of Social Services to obtain legal custody of your child and the authority to make medical decisions for your child without your consent.
The child is then placed in foster care by the state. They may or may not be placed with relatives or friends of the family, and there is a possibility that the parents may not even be granted visitation rights. And parents are then faced with a custody battle with the state to get their kids back.
Many states and counties have specific policies pertaining to such a situation.

Another example is that parents get reported for abuse if the doctors are not sure what's wrong with a baby like the case I covered in my previous post.

In a recent case the story of Syesha Mercado was covered on social media. Over the past six months, this mother of two unexpectedly find herself in a battle for custody of her 2 kids, her infant daughter and her 19 month-old son.

Normally people think that parents whose kids are taken away are horrible parents but sadly most of the times it's not the case. As is true of Syesha's case.

Syesha was a very good mother and has been breastfeeding her son up till 13 months. She became pregnant and tried to wean her son from breastfeeding. This is where the trouble started. He did not want to take in enough other fluids.

She consulted a lactation specialist, 2 other medical professionals before she brought him to John's Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida, on 26 February 2021. She was a concerned mother seeking help for her son.

A Child Protection Services (CPS) investigator visited her at hospital and pressured her to sign a document, that said she won't leave the hospital until the Medical staff determined that everything was good. She work with the staff and social services for over 2 weeks to get the care that her son needed to improve his fluid levels.

It was on 11 March 2021 that the medical staff claimed that she refused a B12 shot and they accused her of medical neglect. Social services took her son from her and placed him into foster care. Less than two weeks after her baby girl was born, they snatched away Syesha's
10-day old baby girl. Syesha's battle still continues with protective services of Manatee County.

I will continue with this story in a few days.

Thank you for reading. If you know of any medical kidnapping cases please share under the familyprotection tag.
