( DE / EN ) Sieht so aus, als würde es zurzeit keinen aktuellen Wochenwahnsinns Post geben? Nun wie auch immer, dieser Wahnsinn hier ist auch nicht von dieser Woche, sondern von vor 2 Wochen, also passt das perfekt ;-)
Normalerweise bekommen wir jedes Jahr in Herbst 3 Tonnen Holz zum Beheizen des Hauses geliefert. Dieses Jahr??? Ende Juli meldet sich unser langjähriger Holzlieferant: Er habe jetzt nur noch diese 3 Tonnen Holz und wenn wir sie jetzt nicht nehmen, dann ist er für dieses Jahr ausverkauft.
Da man ja von allen Seiten vor einem frierenden Winter gewarnt wird, haben wir natürlich zugesagt. Auch hatten wir vernommen, Holz sei in Österreich bald ausverkauft! Interessant. Wohin ging denn eigentlich das ganze Brennholz? Es werden ja wohl kaum innerhalb weniger Monate zehntausende neue Holzöfen verkauft und installiert worden sein?
Aber, wie auch immer, es hilft ja nichts und so haben wir trotz der immensen Preissteigerung dann doch spontan zugesagt. Besser das Holz in der Hand, als die Kälte auf dem Dach. Oder so?
So wurde das Holz geliefert und der große "Scheiterhaufen" musste dann erst mal wieder - Hügel auf - Hügel ab - über ein Brett balanziert - zu der Stelle gebracht werden, wo es aufgerichtet wird.
Es ist allerdings, das könnt ihr mir glauben, ein enormer Unterschied, diese Arbeit Ende Juli bei 30 Grad oder Ende September bei 14 Grad durchzuführen.
Trotzdem mag ich diese Art von Arbeit. Ein wenig anstrengend, aber einfach tun. Stück für Stück. Schubkarre für Schubkarre. Von denen (den Schubkarren) waren übrigens drei Stück im Einsatz, geteiltes Schwitzen is halbes Schwitzen ;-)

Der Lieferant übrigens war sehr fröhlich, als er sich verabschiedete. Er habe jetzt noch 1 Tonne Notfallholz auf Lager und er samt Familie fahren jetzt erst einmal in den Urlaub. Bravo.
Zum Zeitpunkt dieser Lieferung gab es bereits Gerüchte, dass im Burgenland Holz schon völlig ausverkauft sei. Na gut, dass wir in der Steiermark, dem grünen Herzen Österreichs mit dem größten flächenmässigen Waldanteil leben?
Warum brauchen wir so viel Holz? Nun, mit dieser Menge wird (bis auf den Teil in dem mein Schwager wohnt, der hatte vor ein paar Jahren auf Wärmepumpe umgestellt und zahlt sich dämlich mit Strom, wenn die Pumpe mal wieder eine Wartung braucht...) - wird also mit einem großen Brennkessel im Keller über Zentralheizung ein gesamtes Haus geheizt, das sind so in etwa 140 Quadratmeter Wohnfläche. Diese Heizung wird normalerweise mit einer Wasserpumpe betrieben, kann aber bei Stromausfall dennoch das ganze Haus heizen. Dauert etwas länger, aber warmes Wasser steigt bekanntlich auf und vor nicht allzu langer Zeit wurden alle Zentralheizungen auf diese - energiesparende - Weise betrieben.
Nettes Detail am Rande, all die Nachbarn, die an Gas oder Fernwärme angeschlossen sind haben uns immer belächelt, ob des Holz Schleppens. Dieses Jahr allerdings habe ich eher sehr ernste, nachdenkliche Gesichter gesehen, als sie realisierten, dass wir jetzt mit unserer Wärme für diesen Winter absolut unabhängig von allen äußeren Gegebenheiten sind.

The firewood madness
We usually get 3 tons of wood delivered every fall to heat the house. This year??? At the end of July, our long-time wood supplier gets in touch: he only has these 3 tons of wood left and if we don't take them now, he's sold out for this year.
Since we are warned from all sides about a freezing winter, we of course agreed. We had also heard that wood would soon be sold out in Austria! Interesting. Where did all the firewood actually go? It will hardly have been sold and installed within a few months tens of thousands of new wood stoves?
But anyway, it doesn't help and so we spontaneously agreed despite the immense price increase. Better the wood in the hand than the cold on the roof. Or so?
So the wood was delivered and the big "pyre" had to be brought - hill up - hill down - balanced over a board - to the place where it will be erected.
But you can believe me, there is a huge difference between doing this work at the end of July at 30 degrees or at the end of September at 14 degrees.
Nevertheless, I like this kind of work. A little exhausting, but easy to do. Piece by piece. Wheelbarrow by wheelbarrow. By the way, three of them (the wheelbarrows) were in use, divided sweating is half sweating ;-)

Why do we need so much wood? Well, with this amount (except for the part where my brother-in-law lives, he had converted to heat pump a few years ago and pays stupid with electricity when the pump needs maintenance again...). - is thus heated with a large boiler in the basement via central heating an entire house, which are so in about 140 square meters of living space. This heater is normally powered by a water pump, but can still heat the whole house in case of power failure. Takes a little longer, but hot water rises, as we all know, and not so long ago all central heating systems were operated in this - energy-saving - way.
Nice detail on the side, all the neighbors who are connected to gas or district heating have always smiled at us, whether the wood dragging. This year, however, I have seen rather very serious, thoughtful faces when they realized that we are now with our heat for this winter absolutely independent of all external conditions.
