It's been stated that most of the covid cases recorded were asymptomatic situations rather than symptomatic, which means the effects of the covid-19 Omicron variant could be treated at home.

With the zero tolerance on covid, the Chinese government placed a severe restrictions on the commercial city of Shanghai, to prevent escalation and transmission and spread of Covid to other parts of China.

This lockdown have caused untold hardship, hunger and starvation on the people as well as economic setbacks on the the Chinese economy. Many have died in their homes due to shortages of food supplies by the government. It should be noted that, since the lockdown, people weren't allowed to go out of their homes to do anything, they depended solely on government supplies for food and other basics of life.

Most Shanghai residents have called on the government to remove the lockdown placed on the city to help residents return to their normal lives. As we speak the lockdown still continuous in Shanghai.

This has warranted residents to feel that the lockdown placed on Shanghai is targeted beyond the covid, probably an avenue to reduce the city's population. This is solely my thinking.

Shanghai announced its first new COVID-19 cases outside quarantined areas in five days on Friday, triggering stricter curbs and mass testing in one district but plans to end a prolonged city-wide lockdown on June 1 appeared on track.
The commercial hub of 25 million found three new cases in the same family in Qingpu district. All had taken three doses of vaccine and their infections were discovered during regular testing, authorities said.
The three had not left their district town over the past 14 days but had visited at least four places, including a supermarket, all of which were sealed off and were being disinfected, authorities said.Source

In more recent times, after series of Covid testing, there is no covid case for the past 3 days and within 5 days, the Shanghai city have only a single case, but the lockdown has persisted beyond it's duration.

Since the places the 3 people that are covid positive have visited are all negative, then, what's happening to normalcy in the commercial hub of China.

"Our district will follow the precise prevention and control measures, do a good job in epidemic prevention and control and achieve dynamic clearing as soon as possible," Zhang Yan, deputy head of Qingpu district, told an online news conference.
Other officials said steps in the gradual re-opening of Shanghai were going ahead, with suburban parks due to open from Sunday. Other parks could open from June if they met certain conditions but leisure facilities in parks would remain closed.Source

With hopes that the commercial hub is returning to normalcy and business activities have started resuming means that the covid cases is gradually going down by the day. This will enhance the economy of China and the Shanghai region.
