Sometimes, if the inspiration is too strong to be ignored, I grab my camera while driving and I take a shot or two, against the good advice of the cautious and responsible person buried somewhere deep in me. That's not a good practice, and I find it strongly inappropriate.
This time, though, I wasn't driving.
That's why I'm about to create a relatively long post today ...
... with more than just a couple of driving POV shots.
At the end of August 2020, when these photographs were taken ...
... I had to do some paperwork in the city, with the neighbor who bought a piece of terrain from me ...
... and he was driving ...
... so I was finally able to photograph whatever I want, without potentially endangering myself or others who drive around me.
All the shots were taken on the ten kilometers long route ...
... in between Medulin, my hometown ...
... and the nearest city. The city of Pula.
The photographs are lined up in chronological order ...
... trying to recreate that summer drive.
In the JPEG file's properties, I found out that this photograph was taken at 12:31 PM. The following one ...
... also occurred at 12:31 PM. But some seconds have passed between the two, obviously.
I thought that this one was maybe from the 12:32 PM of the 24th August 2020. But nope. 12:31 again.
We are on the main avenue that leads to the old town here, the scenery has changed considerably, but the time is still 12:31.
We are slowing down in front of the red lights a bit further down the road - and the time is 12:31. There is so much going on in small fragments of time when you are in the moving car.
We passed the traffic light and the time is finally not 12:31. This shot was taken at 12:33.
Usually, in summer, there isn't much traffic on the hot streets of Pula around noon.
Very few people can be seen around.
Some are on the beaches ...
... some are in air-conditioned workplaces or homes ...
... some have no air conditioning at home ...
... and some, not many, are even homeless.
Of course, some people are in places that I have no idea about. I don't know where everybody is, you know.
Here the time is 1:26 PM, which means that we visited the office, did what had to be done ...
... and we are leaving the old town now ...
... driving along the seaside boulevard ...
... surrounded by cranes ...
... trees, and fishing boats.
We passed by the port ...
... which is still part of the old town ...
... and continued ...
... directed to the suburbs.
We are driving along another boulevard here ...
... and the time is 1:29 PM
From the boulevard, we took a smaller street ...
... and drove uphill for a hundred meters or so.
At 1:31 we stopped. Parked the van on the side of the street, because the driver had to deliver some stuff to someone who lives in the suburban neighborhood that you can see in this photograph.
While my neighbor was in the house ...
... I was photographing the stuff around the van ...
... fruits ...
... and flowers, mostly.
But I took a paparazzi shot as well. Just one. Couldn't resist, because the scene was so perfectly depicting the midday siesta atmosphere.
When the bee flew away from this exotic flower, the driver came out of the house. In the following shot ...
... the time is 2:00 PM ...
... and we are on the road again ...
... directed out of the city.
We are about to overtake the truck in this photograph.
In this shot, we are on the avenue bordered by oleanders and pines.
We are almost out of the city.
Just another roundabout ...
... that feels a bit like a horizontal Ferris wheel ...
... and we are on the road that leads straight to Medulin ...
... our hometown.
At 2:05 PM we passed by this nice old building.
At 2:09 PM we were approaching the large roundabout ...
... halfway in between Medulin and Pula ...
... it was still 2:09 when we passed it ...
... and I didn't take another shot until 2:10 PM when we were driving in between two lanes of tall pine trees.
It was still 2:10 when we passed the Shell gas station ...
... and some anonymous shrubs & trees.
At 2:11 I photographed the hanging flowers at the entrance of Medulin. A minute later we were in our neighborhood.
And that's it. Hope you enjoyed this old drive. As always in these posts on HIVE, the photographs are my work ... and as always on Saturday, when memories are involved ... this is a post for the #saturdaymemories initiative, initiated by @olga.maslievich - THE END.
