MONOMAD : What will the future bring? // ¿Qué nos deparará el futuro?

Warm greetings to everyone in this important community. We have always been intrigued by the future. Perhaps it is because we cannot see it exactly that we concentrate on trying to manage it and adapt it to what we want. Looking back over some of my travels I can recall these important lessons we once learned. All images are my own, using my Samsung S860 compact camera.

Arriving on the mainland after a few spectacular days on an island, we were met with bad news: in a town near the seaport, vehicles were prevented from passing, and even those who insisted on forcibly crossing were robbed of their luggage. After studying several of the possibilities, listening to some other tourists about what they thought and seeing with our own eyes how several of them returned very sad at not being able to cross through the protests and being left without their belongings, we decided to return to the island, although that would mean crossing the sea with headwind, strong waves, paying a new ticket and making a new plan to return home.

👆And this is part of the boat we boarded. The woman leaning out of the window doesn't seem very convinced that it is very safe, does she? Perhaps none of us who arrived that morning on the mainland imagined that by mid-afternoon we would still be in the same place, with a bit of uncertainty and less money than we arrived with. But here is one of the lessons of this episode: sometimes things don't go as planned. What's worse, there is little we can do to change the situation. What we have left is to be resilient, adapt and try to make a plan and continue in pursuit of the main goal.

👆And this one struck me as very funny, in the midst of that peculiar situation. These pelicans were very comfortable, occupying a boat that perhaps several of us who were there would appreciate having at that moment, to take them on their own to a closer place, to another shore where it is no longer necessary to cross through the town in disarray. And sometimes in life it is like that: some are oblivious to the distressing situations one lives. Some even have more than what we lack. Curious, isn't it? Of course, pelicans are not to blame for this situation. They just make me think of some realities that leave us with specific situations.

¿Curioso, no?

Fortunately, we arrived back on the island safe and sound. A lot of tiredness and lessons learned. Thanks to the support we received, we were able to come up with a new plan to return, which we executed a couple of days later. There are still some more pictures of that particular day in our family album. Sometimes things don't happen the way you plan them, the importance of resilience, valuing the help of others and being forewarned are some of the things I have meditated on when looking at these images. I hope you liked them. See you next time.
