A Postcard from Liverpool - The Waterfront, City Sites, Zip Lines and Street Art

Waterfronttitle.png

I went for a walk into the city center on Tuesday to do some shopping and check out a zipwire that has been set up on the main shopping street in Liverpool. I live at the top of a hill overlooking the river Mersey, just a short 10 minute walk from the waterfront. So I decided to walk down the hill enjoying the river breeze and the peaceful murmur of the lapping waves.

I live so close to the city center that it was only a short meditation until I reached the hustle of the Albert Dock, one of Liverpool's main tourist attractions.

The Liverpool Eye Big Wheel at the Albert Dock.

Passing the 'Liverpool Eye' big wheel, I wandered on as the clouds hung heavy with the threat of rain. It was one of those days though where the clouds fly by and soon the dark rainclouds were blown across the river toward the welsh hills.

As the clouds started to break the sun flashed its face illuminating the docks and the silver flecked waves in the Mersey estuary.

On my way to Church street where the zip line was waiting for me I stopped to snap some pictures of these iconic Liverpool sights...

Iconic Liverpool sights - left the royal liver building, right the cavern club where the Beatles played.

Before cutting through Liverpool's new-ish open air shopping mall, Liverpool One. The shopping mall has some interesting modern architecture that offers opportunities to experiment with perspective in photography.

I finally reached church street, checked my bank balance đŸ˜‚ then decided to take the plunge and have a go on the zip wire.

View from the top of the zip wire launch platform.

It was a little unnerving climbing that tower to over 12 stories high, and due to social distancing the queues were long. This all added to the experience as I waited about 40 minutes before reaching the top and strapping in for the big leap.

Unfortunately I don't own a gimble or any other fancy accessories for my phone so was unable to film the experience, but I remembered to snap a few picks from the launch platform. I've done high zip lines before, but this was a blast as some shoppers hooted at me as I flew above their heads shrieking like a little girl đŸ¤£

James St Station

Passing by James street station I remembered that there are some nice murals on platform two, so I did a cheeky sneak-a-roo into the station platform to snap some pics. The things I do for blog posts... risking a chase from the transport police đŸ˜‚

Safely emerging from the bowels of the earth, the sun was out and I was buzzing from adrenalin. Spurred on by a giant cup of frapachino, I decided to check out some of the city's street art that transforms the streets into a cacophony of psychedelic colours and imagery.

The street art in this collection is comprised of pictures taken at 4 different sites around the city. I love going to these spots at least once or twice a year as there are usually different and new pieces appearing regularly.

There are around 10 more sites I know about where the street art is decent, but by this point I was knackered. I wandered home, still rocking an adrenalin high from my fly above the city streets...

Liverpool Chinese arch.

Stopping only to take a quick pic of the Chinese arch which guards the entrance to Liverpool's China town. After grabbing a few bagels for lunch from The Bagelry, I got on toes and made my weary way up the hill and home.

All images in this post are my own, taken in and around Liverpool city center on Tuesday. If you have enjoyed this post, please check out my homepage @raj808 for similar content. Thank you.
