My Nights

I live in a friendly neighborhood. Most of the men or husbands are around the same age as me. We can get along easily. We have no social status rated by the economy but we respect the elderly.
When we get along together, we often play cards at night. In the holidays, we often go fishing together.

When a family has an event, we come and greet the family. This was the night my neighbor got his son circumcized. We were invited, and we came to enjoy the small party in front of his house. We sang karaoke and ate some snacks.

Togetherness is the key to how we make our neighbourhood harmonious. Our kids can play together. They do not worry about their economic status. In fact, in the economy, we are different. A few of my neighbours are well paid in their workplaces; others are paid as high as the minimum wages in my country.

After work, in the evening, we often have friendly chats in front of our house. We share cigarettes and coffee.

I have been living here for five years. Living in a typical social relationship, I have to follow some social rules. Social sanction is hard for us. The social rules are easy. You just need to get together with them at social events like circumcision parties, wedding parties, working together to clean the drainage system and sometimes spending the night together.
There is no charge for the social rules. If you have a cigarette, you can share. If you want to share some coffee, that's OK. If you just come up and get along together, all people will be welcome. There are some positive sides to this kind of social relationship, but there are also negative ones. The negative side is that sometimes we should follow their activities till late at night when they stay up. On the other hand, we should get up early in the morning to work. However, it is not a big matter.
Thanks for reading my story, I hope you enjoy it.
