Wednesday Walk Around the Grounds of Elvaston Castle

We walked around the grounds of Elvaston Castle today for our #wednesdaywalk initiated by @tattoodjay. It is a Grade II listed country house within a 321 acre estate. For people of a certain age, the castle featured in the film 'Women in Love' (1969) which was based on the D H Lawrence's novel.

We walked around the lovely gardens. There's also a lot of woodland trails for everyone to enjoy.

Does anyone else want to go through doors that say 'private'? I imagine some enchanted secret garden behind them.

I think someone's dog was thirsty at the cafe. It was quite a warm day.

We spotted a male goosander duck. The males have a green head and the females a reddish brown.

It was nice to see a pair of Canada geese looking after their brood.

A Stegosaurus, armoured dinosaur from the late Jurassic. 🙂

It is a really lovely place to visit, the grounds are really well kept, including the Grade II listed gardens. They also have certain events such as food fayres, steam rallies etc throughout the year. It's well worth a visit.
