Payments with crypto assets - Pagos con criptoactivos

I have good news to tell you, it is not something that includes everyone, of course, it is only for my country, but it is an antecedent that can be copied in other states of Latin America, even in other parts of the world, although I am sure that this type of facility already exists in places where the economy is more open.

As of today, payments with a QR code in my country must be accepted from any electronic wallet, be it a bank or a Fintech. It will also be possible to transfer money immediately from one wallet to another just by knowing the CBU, CVU or alias.

Without the intention of confusing them, the first two acronyms identify a 22-digit code, the CBU is the Uniform Banking Code and represents the way to identify the savings or checking account in the bank where we have it located, the CVU is the Uniform Virtual Code and represents the account that we have in a Fintech, the alias is a simplification of the code composed of two or three words joined by a period that is easier to remember than a 22-digit number. These codes or aliases are used to send or receive money in our local currency between these entities.

The QR code that identifies a specific business can be read from the application of any digital wallet and pay for the purchase of a good or service, something that until now was reserved almost exclusively to banks and their wallet applications, perhaps with some exceptions like Mercado Pago.

As a design of nature, just today I received my international debit card provided by Fintech Lemon Cash. This young local startup has recently achieved a capital contribution of close to 16 million dollars in a financing round carried out by the British fund Kingsway Capital.

Fintech owns this virtual wallet product supported by an international debit card issued by Visa, where cryptocurrencies can be deposited, bought and sold, or transferred to others; For now, it only accepts some of the main ones such as bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT, ADA, DAI and of course Argentine pesos as the only fiat currency. It pays interest for holding cryptocurrencies and also has a return in bitcoin of 2% of the payments made with the card or QR.

The promise of this firm is that in the near future purchases can also be paid with any of the cryptocurrencies that have a balance doing the automatic conversion, of course with the prior approval of the owner. Its operations will also be extended in the short term to other countries in the region such as Chile, Uruguay, Peru, and others.

I already made the first deposit with a few cents of ETH that I had forgotten in a wallet and although it is a small amount, I already paid the first interest just for having it held. I am going to use it in more functionalities and I promise to make another publication in the future to tell you how it went with its use and if I found difficulties or benefits.
