Have you observed this kind of wedding?

Many kids are not very keen of going to school. They want to have vacations often; and when there are vacations they die of boredom. They are in search of excitement all the time.

Schools are closed due to summer vacations these days and kids at our home remain busy in finding the activities that would keep them busy. When they find nothing, they want to spend time watching screens. As excessive screen time is not good for their well being, we do not allow them for that. That’s why they keep on generating ideas for killing their boredom.

Last weekend, my husband’s (8 years old) niece planned for a party where she could enjoy with her cousins. For the party she gave the invitation for the wedding of her doll.

With the help of her mother, she prepared invitation card by cutting the card box of her brother’s cerelac. On the card the time of the party was mentioned. Along with it, the name of kids were mentioned whom she gave the invitation too. We are living in a joint family where there are four families living together in addition to grand-parents. So, an invitation card was sent to the three families as all have kids. The fourth is of hers. Hehe. In fact, the card was handed over to the kids as it was the party by the kids and for the kids.

Every one, especially the girls, dressed up properly just as they prepare for a formal function. You can see in this picture how colourful the girls are looking. They are even wearing some make up.

In this party, the children from age 8 months to 13 years were invited. They all danced 🕺 💃 playing songs on the deck.

Can you see the excitement and eagerness of the smaller ones? They do not care for anything but dancing on the beats.

For the arrangement of the party, the girls cleaned the room in the morning and decorated the stage. For preparing the stage they took a black board and decorated it with laces and real vinca rosea flowers and leaves.

Can you guess which doll it is? It has long and thick braid. Yes, it is Rapunzel. How is she looking in our (Pakistani) traditional bridal dress.? It is Lehnga prepared with a fancy fabric.

It is not only the dress that is in accordance with the event but also the jewellery. Look at the hands and neck of the doll. She is wearing bangles and necklace. The bangles were prepared with some ribbon while the necklace was prepared with beads and thread. This kind of necklace which is prepared with rounded bead and is not fit in the neck is called as “MAALA" in our language.

I handed over my mobile to the eldest girl among the children. I was amazed to see the variety of snapshots she captured. It depict her awareness of the social chemistry, needs and demands of the particular happenings of the event.

Did you notice the dresses of other dolls? They are also wearing the formal traditional dresses for such functions. Elsa is wearing Saarhi 😂. The ladies are not alone in the photo but their kids are also with them 😁.

Here is the photo that demonstrate the time when the bride sits on stage for Rasm (rituals of the event). The duppatta is hanged over slightly above their forehead, so that their face is hidden a bit. It is usually done during the function of Mehndi.

Here is the photo that depicts the time when the bride is finally in the room of the groom.

In our cultures the brides are supposed to be reserved and show some shyness at their wedding day. Ideally, a bride is supposed to sit on her bed with her hands in her lap and her head slightly down (as shown in the picture above) until the groom comes and sit in front of her.

At the end of the function, the guests were served with Biryani. I think the guests were very hungry that’s why they didn’t take the picture of the food served to them.

This kind of play are very helpful in boosting social and emotional intelligence of kids. They not only learn event management but also learn to take responsibilities. In the recent era when the use of screen has increased s lot, such plays are a source of taking them away from screens and learn to create collaboration andcomfort zone with relationships in the real world.

At the end, let me show you the girl whose mind generated the idea of get together in the name of doll’s wedding. Here 👇 she is with her doll.....!
