And they call me Dreamstalker Bertrayo. [WE: 114]

Standing to the right, the Corinthian. A character from Neil Gaiman' Sandman. A dark mirror to reflect the nature of human dreams and souls.

What happens when it is the dream that wakes and the sleeper that fades into memory?

-Flavor text, Dream Stalker, MTG: Time Spiral Set

Dreams are fascinating. There is still so much debate about the reasons behind them. Why do we dream? Is it something exclusive to sentient beings? What's their purpose?

On this week's Weekend Experiences topics we are presented with a fabulous chance to talk about dreams and how we would influence them. Our friend @galenkp asks the following question:

What if you had the ability to enter other people's dreams and alter or influence them. Is there a person whose dreams would you enter, how would you influence it and why?

Having such powers would give me a perspective similar to the dreamlords Morpheus and Nightmare (DC and Marvel, respectively). Surfing the collective unconscious and being able to bend its images and rules would be incredible. But I'm only human and think that too much power could give some troubles.

To be benevolent as the Sandman would be a hard task. I'm more inclined to be like Nightmare who does as he wants or in that regard like the Corinthian, Sandman's rogue nightmare.

In the comics, the Corinthian is responsible for starting a whole branch of crime in serial killers. But the does it since it is his nature to serve as a dark mirror upon which humanity can see all the bad things in them. This has the purpose of scaring people to make them ponder upon their actions.

If I had the power to get into dreams, I would have the chance to see a lot of what makes people who they are. I would use the chance to help them see what they should keep doing or what they should stop. Working as the mirror of their identities, people would have the chance to see themselves without self-bias (I know it sounds convoluted). But in the end, I think it would lead then to do things that make them actually happy and move them forward in life.

Of course, I wouldn't be limited to that. Another good idea would be to show people the development of their actions in hypothetical cases. For politics and their corruption, I'd make sure to instill in them a curse if eternal waking. This is to ensure they feel the effects of their decisions and can't scape from their actions until they acknowledge this.

This idea reminds me of Naruto and the jutsu known as Izanami. This technique traps the affected person in a loop reality that can only be escaped once a person has a change for the better. If you are corrupt, the loop will continue and you'll be stuck in a Groundhog's Day scenario indefinitely. It sounds harsh as I believe some people would sleep until they die. But it is a far better outcome for humanity that people who do bad things get stuck in a nightmare of their own device.

If people need words of advice, I'd come in the guste of their loved ones to bestow said advice. Familiarity is a power tool for human psyche.

Good dreams for all those who do good. Dreams of change for all those seeking answers on their pillows. Nightmares to wrong-doers. That would be the law of the dream! I'd definitely would go into my friends dreams to help then get rid of a lot of their fears. Since there's a lot of insecurities holding them back.

Another thing I'd definitely do is to get rid of the idea that crypto is a scam so more people would join platforms like Hive. And start using cryptos come often. Currency systems are as good as the use they have. It's high time we start going decentralized!

Nightmare from Marvel Comics.

On the flip side, for those do bad things, worse would be the gate of their dreams. I'd haunt then with the worst nightmares. Nor even their imagination would be able to fathom the extent of dread. That would make of their waking world the only escape from the evil deeds they perpetrate.

In Marvel Comics, Nightmare is one of the Hell Lords and the one in charge of the real of dreams. He isn't like the Sandman. If you see this guy in your dreams, well, it was nice seeing you. I would go as far as to claim the souls of people in their sleep. I don't have that kind of power. But I'd make sure those who murder, scam, play with the needs of others, cheat and else, seek refuge elsewhere.

In the end, I think my role would get more in tune with the Sandman as a servant of the dreamers rather than controlling their dreams fully. Of course, a little push into the right direction is always good. And if that doesn't help, they van fade into the sands of sleep. Or get lost in the woods of dreams...
