Welcome to The Ink Well Golden Quill Writer Showcase!

In this series, we are selecting one writer to showcase in each edition. The selected writer may be a rising star or an author whose work consistently demonstrates the writing skills we promote in our writing prompts and our catalog of fiction writing tips.

In all cases, The Ink Well Golden Quill will showcase a community member in good standing in The Ink Well who regularly publishes in our community and supports other community members by reading and commenting on their work.

In addition to showcasing one of the author's recent stories, we will also reward a Golden Quill badge to the writer.

Story Excerpt: Scattered Trush

It was pouring rain that night, and thunder and lightning set the New York scene in a way that I kept thinking, "Mamma mia! Today Frankenstein is reborn."

I was sweating uncontrollably and my eyes in the window went back and forth like a pendulum awaiting the arrival of the cops.

From one moment to the next, I felt a silence in the laboratory. Then like a child sneaking toward the refrigerator, I peeked over to where Walker was. But just at that instant, a big green flash was accompanied by a violent explosion that threw me against the wall.

What We Loved

With this story, @gabmr demonstrates a mastery of the story arc, and several other important elements of good fiction. For example, the narrator has a well-developed persona, and the story does an excellent job of integrating action, dialog and narrative, the dynamic trio! Additionally, it beautifully pays homage to film noir, The Hulk, and other legends of the universe of comics and super heroes, and yet is refreshing and original.

Author Accolades

@gabmr is a hard-working author who produces delightful, poignant, readable, and always intriguing stories. His work does not fit into a specific style or genre, and as a result each story brings us delight and wonder, like a gift that cannot be ascertained by shaking the box. Well done, @gabmr. Keep writing!
