A weekly recap of my Mythic Weekend Ranked experience, this time doing a challenge of using all the different tribes. Prior to this, I’ve done two challenges so far, first a Free-To-Play (F2P) Gauntlet with all the Gods to show that they can all compete and get Legendary packs, and second I did another Gauntlet using only Welcome and Core Cards.
So Heirloom Death is still decent (although Deception which is the meta has good tools against it) and it utilizes mostly Anubians, so I decided to go a different route and try a midrange version with “big” stats. Well, it didn’t go very well haha. I only got 6 wins (out of 18, this is the first week going down from 25, which I think is great!).
Weekend | 24 | 25 | 26 |
---|---|---|---|
Tribe | Atlantean | Amazon | Anubian |
God | Magic | Nature | Death |
Wins | 12* | 11* | 6 |
Prize (USD) | $16.5 | $14.5 | $12 |
*Weekends 24 and 25 were out of 25 games; it changed to 18 games starting Weekend 26
Here’s the deck that I used, costing 0.0239 ETH or ~$26.
Just can’t seem to face off well against the Deception meta! The God I did worst against though was Light. Other than those 2 it seems like I could’ve done 50/50 with the rest, but with less matches it’s hard to tell. The legendaries are pretty good but I never seemed to draw them when I needed them.
Strengths
-Decent value through return to board/hand and Afterlife effects
-Heirlooms plus Priestess or Necromancer provides reach/sustain
-Some Blitz effects and abilities
-Good amount of decent Legendaries
Weaknesses
-No card draw
-Weak 2-4 mana slot, need to depend on Heirlooms and Blight Bomb
-Early/Midgame creatures are under-stated
-Ability/Afterlife creatures are slow tempo
Notable Cards
Malissian Magistrate provides some pretty good value, of course it requires you have another Anubian on board, but even on a 2-3 mana creature it’s pretty good. Imagine doing that for the Legendaries! Asenath, Hand of the Pharaohs is actually a pretty neat card, and when combined with Vile Reavers, can provide infinite amounts of Deadly Blitz if left alone. Of course it’s an ability so you can’t use it the first turn, but at least it has Backline. Deathwatch Curate is my favorite of this deck; it’s got a good statline for a 5-mana (most 5-mana creatures are under-stated) and it’s got an upside too! One that saves lives, literally, but healing you if you’re under 15 health. This actually won me a couple of games against aggressive decks.
Notable Cards Not In My Deck
Pyramid Warden is of course one of the most infamous cards in this game; its power level has definitely gone down though with hard counters and strength stealing being prevalent. Neferu, Champion of Death has been seen in some of the best decks, and that’s because it can provide infinite value and reach under certain conditions. Even if the condition is not met, it’s a good board clear plus stats. It's pretty expensive at $83, otherwise I would've used it in my deck for sure. Tyet, Heir To The Sky is a game-ender at 9-mana; a much more aggressive version of Polyhymnia that seeks to finish the game the next turn while providing less defense as it doesn’t have protected or armor.
Other Gods
Other than Death which has 37(!) God-specific Anubians (same number as Amazons for Nature!), Light has 7 (some interesting ones too), then all the other Gods have 1 each which is pretty neat. The Light ones could make it into a deck but they don’t really have much tribe synergy to them.
Last A! Which is Aether. I would say it might stand a chance against Deception but Cuththroat Insight could kill Control decks. However, Deception did get a few nerfs this week so we’ll see if they’re still the majority out there. Control Magic is weak against Heirloom Death though, and with less Deception counters to them, they might be popular. Just bad timing for Tribal Warfare!
Nothing exciting here, I guess when you don't get Legendary packs it's harder to get something cool hey haha.
