For this weekend's #beersaturday adventure, I returned to an old friend of mine. That friend happens to be Mr. Moon Man, the Wisconsin "no coast" pale ale. It's smooth, lower in ABV, and delicious. If I had to name one session beer for me, this would be it.
Most people know New Glarus for their Spotted Cow and Belgian Red; this beer, however, is the one I think defines New Glarus beers. Sitting at 5% ABV, this pale isn't cloudy or overly grapefruity. No tropical flavors or pungent hops...just a smooth pale ale with a bit of hoppiness and flavor. It's a winner for this style.
Unfortunately for those outside of the state, the beer isn't available. The New Glarus group decided years ago to focus on the distribution within the state of Wisconsin. That meant that cities like Chicago/St. Paul/Minneapolis were no longer given distribution to their beers. I kind of like that; a brewery that focuses on its core customer base and on quality rather than quantity.
So what was the pairing for today's beer? Well, as fate would have it, we made some homemade tacos!
First, we cast iron seared up grass fed beef:
Then diced up a red onion and tomato:
Finished up the beer with a taco seasoning:
Then threw the veggies with some sour cream and Organic Valley three cheese blend.
Yum! Easy enough for a Saturday night meal. The beer went well with the dish, too!
Still no haircut, but hey, I'm still on COVID lifestyle time. Let the hair grow a little longer, wear sweatpants to work from time to time...you know, it's the little things in life.
