Beer Tasting: Monthy Python's Holy Grail and Valjhun BoΕΎji Bes

Hello, beer tasters! 🍻 😎 🍻

We all know that's always time for beer, but especially in these hot summer days when most of Europe starts thinking about holidays and the nomadic movement of columns southwards and seawards begins. I have been watching this for two weeks and it is time for me to head south.

Not that I want to go now, but my family, especially my younger son and my wife, are pressing us to go.

OK, I promise, we're going, but just a few more beers to taste at #beersaturday :) 😎

I have two interesting pieces (got from colleagues for my birthday), guarded them until now, in a dark and cool place! :)

First the one with less alcohol.

Black Sheep's Monthy Python's Holy Grail

holly2

Brewed by [Black Sheep Brewery](https://www.blacksheep.co.uk/], Wellgarth, Crosshills, England. Bottle, 0.5 l, alcohol 4.7% ABV.
It's Bitter Golden Ale, with a more pronounced bitterness than malty sweetness.

What do the master brewers say?

Another fine addition to the Black Sheep Brewery range of premium bottled ales, our Holy Grail was specially commissioned to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Monty Python. It has a distinctive taste with plenty of fruity hops, and is full-flavored with a dry and refreshing bitterness. Bottled and pasteurized.

Well, I can say I love Monthy Python sketches, I hope this beer follows...

The beer is golden in colour, the head is solid and disappears slowly. It smells of malt and some kind of herbs. The sip goes down the throat smoothly.
There is quite a strong malt character, but even more pronounced is the hop bitterness that dominates everything, and I can also smell caramel in the background, although there is nothing roasted.

Only the bitterness remains in the aftertaste for a while, everything else disappears.

holly4

A beer for veterans, I would say. Pronounced and strong flavours, as if brewed according to a very old, medieval recipe. I wouldn't mind having a couple of bottles in the fridge.

Let's hurry up, and move on :) 😁

Valjhun BoΕΎji Bes Pale Ale

holly5

Brewed by Microbrewery Valjhun, Roje pri čatežu, Slovenia. Bottle, 0.5 l, alcohol 4.9% ABV, IBU 21.
It's APA - American Pale Ale style, average strength, and very well balanced between hops and malts.
In English, 'BoΕΎji bes' means God's rage.

What do the master brewers say?

God's Fury is a pale ale beer, unfiltered and unpasteurised, extremely fresh and drinkable, made from first-class ingredients with a balanced citrus aroma and the taste of real Czech beers. In our brewery, we brew our beer in equipment we designed and built ourselves. No artificial additives, no artificial CO2 and a natural carbonation process.

The name of the brewery - Valjhun - and the beer - God's Fury - has a historical background. Valjhun was a Slovenian duke and in the eighth century he converted to the Christian faith and killed all those who refused to be Christianised.
Given our situation, it seems to me that this conflict is still ongoing ...

holly6

The beer is cloudy golden in color, the head is large and creamy. It smells fresh and hoppy.
The sip goes smoothly down the throat, the hop bitterness and malt about the same, so balanced, in the background, discreetly, lemon.
Only the hop bitterness remains in the aftertaste for a while.

Very fresh and drinkable. Well-balanced ingredients. Since it's deliverable, there will probably be a bottle ending up in my fridge.

And what am I listening to as I write this?

Something from my yesterdays #newtunes post. The German band, which plays a mix of stoner and psychedelic rock with folk influences.

Samsara Blues Experiment - Second Birth
