She proves what she says. Taylor Swift tried switching genre, from country to pop to alternative; continuously experimenting on her sound and songwriting; and taking huge risks in her career. She reinvents herself throughout her journey as an artist.
In terms of writing, there are so many things to try. That’s why I want to try more niches and genres. I don’t want to be encaged in what I currently do. Just like Taylor Swift.
I see myself in a Engineering industry, not in a career related to literature and writing. But, I had a dream of writing a book, either a mystery novel or a collection of poems or flash fictions. To be able to do that, I must improve my writing skills, grow as a writer first.
In Hive, I think I can try different things and have growth and improvement in my writing skills. The reason I came here.
I started my journey in Hive alone, no one invited me, and discovering and wandering in this new wonderland on my own. But I’m armed with knowledge from @anonymous02 ‘s e-book How to: Write and Earn in Hive (Beginner's Guide) and guidance and answers from the Hive PH discord community. So I'm not really alone. I’m Roy Clyde, a 19 year- old railway engineering student from Neg. Occidental and currently studying in Polytechnic University of the Philippines. I don’t really know how to describe myself. But one thing for sure, I’m shy and reserved thus I have limited pictures of myself. I also love coffee.
I’m introducing myself here as viceroyklayd (Viceroy Klayd). According to Merriam Webster, viceroy means a governor or ruler of a country or province who rules as a representative of the king or a sovereign and a showy North American nymphalid butterfly with black and orange colors similar to monarch.
Ever since, I encountered this word at HEKASI class in elementary, I’m obsessed with it since it includes my first name. It sounds like I’m a royalty. For me, it means I’m governing the vast land on my own—which I considered to be writing. And, in the dark, like caterpillar in his cocoon, I develop myself and grow but it’s time to leave that cocoon bad fly. Butterflies,like viceroy, symbolize rebirth and change.
With a new pseudonym, I’m reinventing and rebranding myself. The nyctophiliac caterpillar is now turning into butterfly. So, viceroyklayd is a person who underwent metamorphosis who will govern a kingdom of fictional stories.
My other interests other than writing are reading novels, watching anime, movies and tv series and listening to music. I love psychological thriller, mystery thriller and noir genres on books and shows. I'm a huge of Taylor Swift, Twenty One Pilots and Wallows. I'm also interested in gardening, photography and cooking, just pure interest, not currently doing such things.
Writing as my thing
Few years have passed, coronavirus pandemic taken its toll on me. I’ve struggled mentally as I became trapped in limited walls of the house, away from my friends and fun; and financially, as allowance bid farewell in the online setup. Writing is my stone that made me able to hit two birds: expressing my feelings and thoughts to cope and earning online.
For two years, writing on and off, I’ve published numerous articles, stories and blogs in read. cash. Money weren’t all I earned, I earned an opportunity to meet new people and more experience and knowledge about writing.
My fervent interest in writing traces its root way back in primary school. As a chubby kid who’s not inclined to sports, I filled my inadequacy with writing through journalism. Not knowing my main interest plus my flexibility, I almost tried every written categories. Later on, editorial writing and sports writing became my fortes. With these categories, I’ve competed in school, district, division levels and thankfully, regional level in Grade 11. I’m hoping to be able to use my journalism skills again in the university or even here.
Aside from blogging and journalism, I love creative writing, poetry and journalling. I even have a green journal, written with green pen and containing poems, song lyrics, thoughts and rants about what color green represents —hope, growth, life, harmony and nature. The green journal became my creative expression to lighten a heavy chest and relax a busy mind.
I also had short experiences on academic commissions. I wrote essays for my classmates and schoolmates before.
