We are currently in the process of discussing several changes that we are going to apply to the Music Community. Now, as at the beginning of this initiative, the idea is to create a space for music, where music is the protagonist in its highest quality standards. That's why in the official presentation of the @music-community account, among the objectives, these three appeared first:
- We want to achieve the highest, professional quality level in music.
- We want to unite and get together all musicians, singers, producers, DJs, music businesses, and all music lovers and fans.
- We want the best music on the blockchain to be available in this community.
In that same post it says: "Feel free to post stories around Music, post your videos singing, playing instruments and more."
En este momento estamos en proceso de discusión acerca de varios cambios que vamos a aplicar a la comunidad Music Community. Ahora, al igual que al comienzo de esta iniciativa, la idea es crear un espacio para la música, donde esta sea la protagonista en sus mayores estándares de calidad. Por eso en la presentación oficial de la cuenta @music-community, entre los objetivos, aparecían estos tres de primero:
- Queremos alcanzar el máximo nivel de calidad profesional en la música.
- Queremos unir y juntar a todos los músicos, cantantes, productores, Djs, negocios de música, y a todos los amantes y fans de la música.
- Queremos que la mejor música en el blockchain esté disponible en esta comunidad.
En esa misma publicación dice: “Siéntase libre de publicar historias en torno a la Música, publique sus videos cantando, tocando instrumentos y más.”
However, there was one aspect that we could not foresee. There is an activity enjoyed by many music lovers that has more to do with fun, than with "music" as such, is karaokes. This is a very amusing practice, which has an infinity of followers all over the world, in which the most important thing is not the "musical quality", but the fun. For that same reason, it can be seen that in many contests the worst singer can win because perhaps he/she is the funniest, the most amusing.
This practice has taken us away from our first goal of "reaching the highest level of professional quality in music". But we understand that Hive is not only and exclusively for professional musicians, but for many musicians who are just starting to make their way in this field and that on many occasions they don't have the necessary equipment and resources to make a "professional production".
The problem is that many of the users who have been uploading their songs, do not show any interest in making a recording that points to the professional and we are talking about "attitude", we are talking about standing in front of a camera (even a cell phone) and assume the role of an "artist", of someone who respects the audiences that will see and listen to it.
Being a singer does not have to do with having a professional microphone and a professional video camera and a console where you can make your mixes, it has to do with respect for the music, for the profession, for the public.
Sin embargo, hubo un aspecto que no pudimos prever. Hay una actividad que disfrutan muchos amantes de la música que tiene que ver más con la diversión, que con la “música” como tal, son los karaokes. Esta es una práctica muy divertida, que cuenta con infinidad de seguidores en todo el mundo, en la cual lo más importante no es la “calidad musical”, sino la diversión. Por esa misma razón se puede ver que en muchos concursos puede ganar el peor cantante, porque quizá es el más divertido, el más gracioso.
Esta práctica nos ha alejado de nuestro primer objetivo de “alcanzar el máximo nivel de calidad profesional en la música”. Pero entendemos que Hive no alberga única y exclusivamente a músicos profesionales, sino a muchos músicos que están empezando a abrirse camino en ese campo y que en muchas ocasiones no cuentan con los equipos y recursos necesarios para hacer una “producción profesional”.
El problema está en que muchos de los usuarios que han venido subiendo sus canciones, no muestran ningún interés en hacer una grabación que apunte a lo profesional y estamos hablando de “actitud”, estamos hablando de pararse frente a una cámara (aunque sea del celular) y asumir el rol de un “artista”, de alguien que respeta al público que la va a ver y a escuchar.
Ser un cantante no tiene que ver con tener un micrófono profesional y una cámara de video profesional y una consola donde hacer sus mezclas, tiene que ver con respeto a la música, a la profesión, al público.
The singer, when he assumes responsibility, is the same as any other musician, who devotes time to prepare himself as a performer, to prepare his repertoire and to sing it with the seriousness and responsibility of an artist.
But unfortunately, karaoke lends itself to anything. Of course, we have seen many times singers who take their role seriously and take advantage of the resource of the backing tracks. But it is also true that those who take singing seriously usually look for a way to accompany musically with a musician or accompany (even with limitations) themselves.
For this reason, we are considering the possibility of no longer accepting karaoke-like performances in the Music community and we are considering the possibility of muting those posts that do not comply with this decision.
The question arises whether there is any way around this measure. Yes, if you are a singer and you regularly upload quality performances (which includes the attitude of a singer), either A Cappella, or with accompaniment by real musicians, or with your own accompaniment, you may occasionally upload a song with a backing track as well. But this should be the exception, not the rule.
El cantante, cuando se asume responsablemente, es igual que cualquier otro músico, que le dedica tiempo a prepararse como intérprete, a preparar su repertorio y a cantarlo con la seriedad y responsabilidad de un artista.
Pero lamentablemente el karaoke se presta a cualquier cosa. Por supuesto, hemos visto muchas veces a cantantes que sí asumen su rol con seriedad y aprovechan el recurso de las pistas. Pero también es verdad que el que asume el canto con seriedad suele buscar la manera de acompañarse musicalmente con algún músico o se acompaña (aunque sea con limitaciones) a sí mismo.
Por esta razones estamos considerando la posibilidad de no aceptar más interpretaciones tipo karaoke en la comunidad de Music y estamos considerando la posibilidad de silenciar las publicaciones que incumplan esta decisión.
Surge la pregunta si habrá alguna posibilidad de evitar esta medida. Sí hay una, si eres cantante y regularmente subes interpretaciones de calidad (lo cual incluye la actitud de un cantante), ya sea A Capela, o con acompañamiento de músicos reales, o con tu propio acompañamiento, ocasionalmente podrás también subir una canción con pista. Pero esta deberá ser la excepción, no la regla.
Remember that leveling up our community is something that will benefit all of us, because we will be creating a space where we can permanently find the "best music", where we can share our passion for quality music.
There are many other spaces in Hive where everyone can show their passion for music with their amateur performances, including contests for participants of all levels and we are sure that all those users who have been publishing their songs in our community, will find the space to continue doing what they like.
As our @music-community also does curations beyond this community, when we see that these works are improving and require recognition we will gladly give them our support and when they have overcome and feel that they can come to these spaces with live music, they will be welcome.
We are sure that this decision will also encourage the participation of the singers who have taken on this work with professionalism, to feel more motivated to upload their content to this community.
Recuerda que el subir de nivel a nuestra comunidad es algo que nos va a favorecer a todos, pues estaremos creando un espacio donde permanentemente podamos encontrar la “mejor música”, donde podamos compartir esa pasión por la calidad musical.
Hay muchos otros espacios en Hive donde cada quien puede mostrar su pasión por la música con sus interpretaciones de aficionados, incluyendo concursos para participantes de todos los nivels y estamos seguros que todos esos usuarios que han venido publicando sus canciones en nuestra comunidad, van a encontrar el espacio para seguir haciendo lo que les gusta.
Como nuestra @music-community también hace curaciones más allá de esta comunidad, cuando veamos que esos trabajos van mejorando y requiera de un reconocimiento con gusto les brindaremos nuestro apoyo y cuando se hayan superado y sientan que pueden venir a estos espacios con música en vivo, serán bienvenidos.
Estamos seguros que esta decisión también hará que la participación de los cantantes que han asumido esta labor con profesionalismo, se sientan más motivados a subir su contenido.
