Hello friends I hope you are well I want to share with you the following information about the new variant of the coranavirus.

Advisors advised the World Health Organisation to define the variant as "of concern", citing the large number of mutations in the variant, the possibility of an increased risk of re-infection and other factors.

According to the WHO statement, several studies are ongoing, and WHO will inform member states and the public as necessary.

The World Health Organisation has called on countries to intensify surveillance and sequencing efforts to better understand coronavirus variants.

It appears to be spreading rapidly in parts of South Africa, and scientists are concerned that the unusually high number of mutations could make it more contagious and cause immune leakage.

A WHO statement said the WHO Technical Advisory Group on the Development of SARS-CoV-2 (TAG-VE), an independent group of experts, met on Friday to discuss the alternative.

"At first it looked like a cluster outbreak, but since yesterday we got a signal from our Genomic Surveillance Network scientists that they were observing a new variant," Jo Bhala, South Africa's health minister, said on Thursday. Did the variable appear for the first time?

South African authorities initially reported a confirmed case from a South African traveller in Hong Kong. Then, on Friday, Hong Kong health authorities detected a second case of variant B.1.1.529 among travellers returning to the same floor of the hotel designated for quarantine.

Also on Friday, the Belgian government said a person recently arrived from abroad, who had not been vaccinated, tested positive for the new variant, marking the first case in Europe.

The alternative has "many more spikes than we expected," said Tulio de Oliveira, director of the South African Centre for Epidemics and Innovation. a few days and weeks.

Viruses, including the one that causes Covid-19, mutate regularly and most new mutations do not have a significant impact on the behaviour of the virus and the disease it causes.
