Hello friends, today I want to share some advice for those who have recently experienced the loss of their pets. I have been through this situation several times in my life and the most recent was a couple of weeks ago, but despite the pain and sadness that this generates, I am aware that we must work to overcome the loss and the feeling of emptiness that pets leave us when they are gone.

1) Say goodbye to him or her

1) Despídete de él o ella

The first thing I must suggest is that if you have the opportunity to say goodbye to your pet, it has been proven that when pet owners accompany their pets, they feel fulfilled because they trust their owner and feel protected. In my case it was a bit traumatic because my Draco had convulsions in his last moments, but even so my mum and I tried to make him feel content, caressing him gently, talking to him sweetly, telling him every moment how much we loved him and how much we thanked him for the years of happiness he gave us. That will help you in the future to get over his absence, knowing that you were with him all the time.

2) Don't be ashamed of how you feel

2) No te avergüences de lo que sientes

You must understand that your grief is legitimate, it is absolutely normal that you feel sad, that you don't want to do anything like go out with your friends or do the things you like to do. There are people who may tell you "it was just a dog" or "it was just a cat", but don't listen to them, it was your friend, so it's normal to feel down, so don't be ashamed of your feelings, instead accept that you are in pain, talk about it with someone you trust, and cry if you want to cry to drain your sadness.

3) Tell children the truth

3) Dile la verdad a los niños

Many people tend to hide from children what happened to their pets and that is not right, saying things like "He went on a trip" will only make the child have false hopes for his or her possible return, the best thing is to speak subtly but tell the truth, maybe "He went to heaven" "God called him with him", I don't know, or whatever you think is more appropriate, but the idea is that children understand that they should not wait for their pet.

4) Do not try to replace your pet immediately

4) No intentes sustituir a tu mascota inmediatamente

I believe that every pet is unique and irreplaceable, although I certainly don't mean that you shouldn't have other pets later on, what I mean is that first of all you should get over the loss of your previous pet, thank it for the good times you had together and when you feel you can get back to your life and remember it without sadness, then you will be ready for a new pet, but you should never compare the new one with the old one, remember that each animal has its own habits and personalities.

5) The pain will not last forever

5) El dolor no durará para siempre

Although it may seem a lie, we must know that the pain will not last forever, as we get closer to acceptance, we will begin to remember our pet with joy, the happy moments of his or her life, and not those last ones in which both he or she and we feel sad, you will see that with the passage of time, as you try to take your mind to the happy moments, the bad ones will be forgotten and you will be happy again.
