My Hive Story

I have been seeing many of these, originating with this post by @snook, and I thought I would join in.

How long have you been on the Blockchain?

About 5 years and six months now. I joined after seeing Erik Voorhees tweet about Steem becoming #3 on Coinmarketcap.com

What was your background in Cryptocurrency when you first came to the blockchain?

I had been a crypto enthusiast for a couple of years already, I had gone from Bitcoin maximalism to seeking out more functional alternatives (Ethereum, Dash, Monero and others I had owned before).

What was your background in writing when you first came to the blockchain?

None really beyond forum posts online.

How many people did you know when you first came to the Blockchain?

Nobody already on the chain

How did you meet people when you first came to the Blockchain?

I actually went to the first Steemfest. We also tried to do an Irish Steem meetup, but the first one fell through. We had a good few in later years.

Who did you look up to when you first came to the blockchain?

@dantheman. I started following his posts about Steem religiously, and he gave me a couple of upvotes worth several hundred dollars on some of my first posts and comments (which I think spurred my motivation to get to know this place somewhat...)

How would you describe your first three months on the blockchain?

Obsessively trying to follow everything that was happening and trying to understand the whole thing.

Has being a part of the blockchain changed you in any way for the good?

Well, I've certainly made a lot of friends here. I'm sure that it has changed me, but I wouldn't be able to put a finger on how.

At times it has been my entire livelihood, including now.

What is your favorite memory from your time on the blockchain?

Steemfest - all the ones I went to.

If you could give advice to a new person signing up to Hive what would it be?

Temper your expectations. Understand what the network is, its level of maturity, don't expect the same level of ease of use as a normal social media site just yet (but we should be pushing to make it as such). I think it's almost always been worth it in the end for those who took the time, effort, and who stuck around.
