Oingo Boingo - Only a Lad

Like many other people, I was aware

of Oingo Boingo's tunes, though only really their singles ('Weird Science', 'Dead Man's Party', etc.). However, probably a decade or so ago, I wound up downloading all their albums, and going through the full discography, and became a massive fan. The group was originally formed in 1972 under the name The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo, as a performance art group, led by Richard Elfman. However, by the end of the decade, his brother Danny Elfman had taken over/reformed the group, as an actual band, and began to write, record and tour with it. The group is often listed as a 'new-wave' band, though their music is much more genre-bending and in-depth than most bands of the genre. Elfman's musical knowledge and songwriting abilities are second to none; his film scores have become iconic, cementing his legacy in modern music. However, for today's tune, we will go back to the beginning of Oingo Boingo, with the titel track to their debut full length, 1981's Only a Lad. This track is awesome, and weird, and everything I love about the band... the main guitar riff, with the choppy, descending chromatic line is a lot of fun to play, and the Choruses are huge and catchy.
