Classic Cars at the Pattaya Boat Show - Part 2 - Boats and Replica Porsches

See part 1 for the here. This gathering took place on a lawn at the largest marina/yacht club in Southeast Asia, Ocean Marina in Pattaya, Thailand. With the new highway in place, it is about 90 minutes by car from Bangkok. All of these cars were part of a local club, Classic Car Friends Pattaya.

A Riva superyacht on display at the show. I heard this one was sold! The price, as they say ... if you need to ask ...

The future of boating? Electric outboard motors. The powerbank is in the middle, and the engines look very compact compared to petrol equivalents.

A pretty insane ribbed vessel, with a lot of engines. This thing must fly!

I was lucky enough thanks to contacts at the show to get a trip on this beast with twin 200hp Mercury engines. A fishing boat which costs rather a lot of money also.

I reckon this might be more in my price range, and looks like it could get about for some island hopping very nicely with it's 250hp Honda VTEC ... :)

Mercedes 230 SL (W113)

I'll let this car speak for itself, as much can be found out about them online! Lovely 6 cylinder top of the range Mercedes sports roadster introduced in 1963 and made until 1971.

Stylish original interior.

Very sleek and elegant lines. Twin exhausts give a sporty overtone.

Luggage rack behind the seats with matching luggage!

It looks good from pretty much any angle. I got to hear the motor running also at one point, and it ticked over very smoothly. These cars were incredibly well engineered with advanced features for the time. They also cost as much as a Porsche or Ferrari! With all that engineering and quality, comes a price. One well worth it to anyone who's held onto one of these over the years. They're worth rather a lot of money nowadays.

The Mercedes 230 SL is a very neat looking classic luxury sports car.

Exquisite details with the chromework, and lines of the headlights are really period looking and cool.

Sunbeam Alpine

A Sunbeam Alpine, a rare sight. Likely mid 1960s model, these cars were produced by the Rootes Group (England).

Porsche Speedster replicas

Since the real ones actually cost an absolute fortune nowadays, it makes sense to recreate them at a more accessible level. They can make for a very nice addition to a classic car show!

First shot of our replica Speedsters today. Very fun and good looking cars built from shortened VW Beetle chassis, fibreglass bodies and other replica or aftermarket parts which complete the 'factory look'. There are a few tell-tale signs however, such as handbrakes being in the wrong place, the wrong gearshifter, and Beetle floor pedals. Suburu engines are also a common addition now, for much more power than the originals had.

Interiors can have 'real' Porsche parts - steering wheel, dials, headlights, dashboard etc. They can be made to look almost exactly like the real thing.

Superb styling, these replica bodies are just like the real thing.

There was also another present, this time with a 'widebody' style. The Porsche silver on this one I think works very nicely.

The cars looked great parked out on the grass with the sea and boats as a backdrop.

Superyachts parked up at the show. For the elite only! Didn't seem to get an invite to any of these lol ...

Speedster looks the part with it's headlight grills and leather boot straps.
