Runestone, Öl 37

a relic from the Viking time

There are many runestones in Öland, Sweden. If you have been reading my blog for a while, you remember that I visited Birka, the Viking ancient village in the Stockholm archipelago. After I visited the village, I have started getting interested in runestones. Runestones are relics that are curved by Vikings and they left messages to us in the 21st century.

This runestone, Öl 37 stands very close to the windmills in Lerkaka, Oland, Sweden. And, we just stopped by and checked it out. When I visited the runestone, to be honest, I could not read the relic at all, and couldn't know what was about. So, when I got back home, and I checked Rundata, which is the rune data accumulated by scholars at Uppsala University. And, I checked about Öl 37. Here we go!

Translated into English
”Ólafr and Gamall and Saxi raised this stone in memory of Unn, their father. Geirvé had these monuments (raised) here in memory of her husbandman. Ólafr avenged Féar-Unn (Rich-Unn) at Mon(?). Unn owned here half the village.”

Isn't it pretty cool that Vikings raised this stone relic in memory of their monumental time? And, I think this is pretty awesome that we can feel how the Vikings felt in 800 - 1000. I think it is time to watch the Viking series on Netflix, right? LOL!

スウェーデンとは何を思い浮かべますか？　スウェーデンと言えば、IKEA、VOLVO、テトラパック、H＆M、スカイプ、SPOTIFYなどでしょうか？　色々なイメージのあるスウェーデンですが、NETFLIXの影響が大きいのか今は多くの方がヴァイキングを思い浮かべる方もいるのではないでしょうか？

そのヴァイキングが残した石碑をルーン石碑と言います。　わたしのブログをいて頂いている方はすでに読んでいただいた方もいるかもしれませんが、先月、ヴァイキングの遺跡である、ビルカに行ってきました。　そこで少し習ったルーン文字に興味を持ち始め、色々とヴァイキングの歴史やヴァイキングが使用したルーン文字について少し調べ始めました。

エーランド島を訪問するにあたり、島内にたくさんのルーン石碑が残されていることを知り、石碑をみてみたいと思っていました。　偶然ではあるのですが、Lerkakaで出会った風車のすぐ近くにこの、Öl 37というルーン石碑がありました。　このÖl 37と言う名称はルーンデータと言う、ウプサラ大学がまとめたデータから調べました。

ルーン石碑を訪れた時は書いている意味などは全然分からなかったのですが、帰ってきてからルーンデータで調べてみました。

英語訳を見つけたので、ご参考にみてみてください。　古代のルーン文字を電台スウェーデン語に訳し、それを英語に訳したデータが入っているルーンデータ。　趣味を兼ねて、ルーン文字を読めるようになったらなぁ～と思いました。　渋い趣味ですよね、ルーン文字を読むようになる趣味。( ´艸｀)　このÖl 37の石碑も自分の父親（Unnさん）が亡くなり、その息子（Ólafr さんと Gamallさん）と奥様（Saxiさん）が、父であり夫であるUnnさんを思い出に建立したと書いてあります。　１０００年の月日を経て、古代ヴァイキングの家族愛を知ることができるこの石碑、すごく素敵だと思いませんか？　結婚し、子供を持つ、又は、結婚しなくても配偶者を持ち、子供を育てると言うことは次の世代に何かを残すと言う意味で、大切だなぁと色々と感じた訪問になりました。
