Strawberry Season-Strawberry Shortcake

We have been growing strawberries in our garden since we moved into our house almost 8 years ago. By trial and error we finally came up with this cover for our strawberry patch that's easy for me to open and keeps the birds out. The lid has netting over the top and is hinged for easy access.

This season has started out quite well for strawberries, I've gathered quite a bit already and had enough to make homemade shortcake for my husband and I.

1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons powdered sugar

Bake 10-12 minutes until golden brown.

Beat heavy cream with vanilla and powdered sugar with an electric mixer on high speed until soft peaks form.

Split warm shortcakes and fill with strawberries and whipped cream and enjoy.

My husband does not like the added sugar in the strawberries so I made that optional.
