Sweet, Delectable, Homemade Apple Pie

applepieheader.png

This is the first time I've made my own edible apple pie, and I have to say that I'm quite proud of myself! 😁 The last time I tried was a good ten or so years ago, and I got the pastry wrong, so very wrong, and I never felt brave enough to try again... until today that is!

Today I learnt about the importance of using freezing cold ingredients in your pie dough, and if you have the unfortunate luck to be living in a perpetually hot and humid country to basically stand there with the fridge open to keep everything cold. Then pop the dough into the freezer for 15-20mins before baking it. Because everything must be cold. ❄️

This is the recipe that I used.

I may or may not have gone overboard with making sure everything stayed icy freezy cold, but I didn't want to fail and sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Even if it involves making dough inside a fridge that keeps beeping at you because the door has been open for too long and you happen to have adverse feelings in regards to god-awful repetitive beeps.

The things I do! 🤣

The filling was my own concoction.

I used two types of apples -- green granny smiths as is standard, but also a couple of gala apples, just for a couple of different apple flavours. Not sure if that's recommended or not, but either way! It was tasty! I also made a caramel syrup with the apple water, brown sugar and butter to mix with the apple.

And then I very hastily constructed them in order to throw them in the oven while the pastry was still cold. 🤣

Anyway, this isn't a recipe post -- I just wanted to share my first ever successful pie!

...or three of them, if you will. 😅

For they are glorious and worthy of sharing!

I'm not sure if it was my determination to keep everything as icy cold as possible or just sheer luck, but the pastry turned out perfect. 😁

I am officially no longer scared of pastry making! I no longer have to rely on crappy frozen puff pastry! It is time to make all the pastries!!!!!!

Until next time! 😊🍎🥧
