Is life fair or unfair?

This question is not easy to answer. When we know that every head is a world, we can imagine the vast range of answers that we could get when we inquire about this question. And each one will be possibly correct from each personal appreciation. That is why the answer can only apply to the one who gives himself this answer, to his own personality.

¿Es la vida justa o injusta?

Esta pregunta no es sencilla de contestar. Cuando sabemos que cada cabeza es un mundo, podemos imaginar la vasta amplitud de respuestas que podríamos obtener al indagar sobre esta pregunta. Y cada una será posiblemente correcta desde cada apreciación personal. Es por ello, que la respuesta solo podrá aplicar a quien precisamente se da esa repuesta, a su propia personalidad.

When we want to define what is fair and what is not fair, we should generally focus on the legal concepts that might apply to this issue. It is assumed, that laws are made to ensure the correct application of justice, based on universally accepted concepts and definitions. One would think, that someone could go to an administrator of justice and request, that depending on the outcome of a trial on his questioning of this question for his person, a verdict on how fair or not life has been to him.

Cuando queremos definir que es justo y que no lo es, generalmente deberíamos centrarnos en los conceptos legales que podrían aplicar para esta cuestión. Se supone, que las leyes están hechas para garantizar la correcta aplicación de la justicia, basados en conceptos y definiciones universalmente aceptados. Se podría pensar, que alguien pudiera acudir a un administrador de justicia y solicitar, que en función del resultado de un juicio sobre su cuestionamiento de esta pregunta para con su persona, se le emita un veredicto sobre cuan justa o no ha sido la vida con el.

But, as I said at the beginning, it is a question that requires a personal evaluation, based on the concepts and definition of what it has meant for that person to live his or her life.

I can only give my personal opinion to try to give a more or less coherent answer to this question. And I think it has to do only with how we value our life according to our environment. If you're poor and you get by in an environment where deprivation is not noticeable, you might decide that life has not been fair to you. I have been in that position. Working in a residence as a chauffeur for the mother of the owners of a company with national reach and international growth, where opulence, comfort, and a level of resources that would be the envy of anyone, would put you in that dilemma. But when you enjoy what you do, accept your reality and situation as the best you could be in, you understand that life gives you what you want.

Solo puedo dar mi opinión personal para tratar de dar una respuesta más o menos coherente para esta pregunta. Y creo que tiene que ver solo con como valoramos nuestra vida en función de nuestro entorno. Si se es pobre y te desenvuelves en un ambiente donde las carencias no se notan, podrías decidir que la vida no ha sido justa contigo. Yo he estado en esa posición. Trabajar en una residencia como chófer de la madre de los dueños de una empresa con alcance nacional y crecimiento internacional, donde la opulencia, la comodidad y un nivel de recursos que serian envidia de cualquiera, te pondría en ese dilema. Pero cuando se disfruta lo que haces, aceptas tu realidad y situación como la mejor en la que podrías estar, entiendes que la vida te da lo que tú deseas.

There was a time when this lady of Caracas's high society shared playful moments with others recognized of this world, which included owners of media, food production companies, and audiovisual media. A Colombian driver who drove one of these ladies and in some opportunities, I talked with this person, receiving his complaints, laments, and bad attitude regarding his personal situation and the wealth where he developed for his work. These included complaints as to why he could not have a life, with at least a small fraction of the wealth he saw on a daily basis. It was pathetic.

Hubo un tiempo, donde esta dama de la alta sociedad caraqueña, compartía momentos lúdicos con otras reconocidas señoras de este mundo, donde se incluían dueñas de medios de comunicación, empresas de producción de alimentos y de medios audiovisuales. Había un chófer colombiano que le manejaba a una de estas señoras y en algunas oportunidades que converse con esta persona, recibía sus quejas, lamentos y mal actitud con respecto a su situación personal y la riqueza donde se desenvolvía para sus labores. Estas incluían quejas en cuanto a porque él no podía tener una vida, con por lo menos una pequeña fracción de la riqueza que miraba a diario. Era patético.

Before long, I ended up driving all these ladies. Every Tuesday, when they met to play Baccarat, I made a tour of the best and richest urbanizations of Caracas, picking up these five ladies, including my boss. The Colombian driver was not fired, only that his attitude contrasted with mine and so they preferred that I made this transfer to the residence of one of them located in the Alto Hatillo de Caracas. They were beautiful walks. And what gratifying conversations I got to have, a 27-year-old man with all these ladies, the youngest not younger than 60 years old. Respectful conversations, on so many topics, varied and funny at times. It included a walk every Tuesday, to admire the spectacular and beautiful garden that the owner of this residence boasted about. I enjoyed it, admired it, felt it, lived it, and was always grateful for it. I will be forever grateful to have known these splendid women, their noble and altruistic feelings, their quiet work to help many people in need, and their intellectual dissertations, already with several 18-year-old drinks between chest and back (they, as I was the driver, obviously, could not drink).

Al poco tiempo, termine conduciendo a todas estas damas. Todos los martes, días en que se reunían a jugar Baccarat, realizaba un periplo por las mejores y más ricas urbanizaciones de Caracas, recogiendo a estas cinco señoras que incluían a mi jefa. El chófer colombiano no fue despedido, solo que su actitud contrastaba con la mía y entonces prefirieron que yo les hiciera este traslado hasta la residencia de una de ellas ubicada en el Alto Hatillo de Caracas. Eran paseos hermosos. Y que gratificantes conversaciones llegue a tener, yo un hombre de 27 años con todas estas señoras, la más joven no menor de 60 años. Conversaciones respetuosas, sobre tantos temas, variados y divertidos en ocasiones. Se incluía un paseo cada martes, para admirar el espectacular y hermoso jardín del que se ufanaba la dueña de esta residencia. Yo lo disfrutaba, lo admiraba, lo sentía, lo vivía y lo agradecía siempre. Estaré por siempre agradecido de haber conocido a estas espléndidas mujeres, sus sentimientos nobles y altruistas, su trabajo callado de ayuda a mucha gente necesitada y sus intelectuales disertaciones, ya con varios tragos de 18 años entre pecho y espalda (ellas, yo como era el chofer, obvio, no podía beber).
