What is anger?

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary Anger is "a strong feeling of being upset or annoyed because of something wrong or bad", the Merriam-Webster dictionary also defines Anger as "the feeling that makes someone want to hurt other people, to shout, etc. : the feeling of being angry",

from the above definitions we can see that as humans we all get angry at one point or the other but how we express it differs from one person to another.

I will share a short stories relating to the ill-effect of anger.
I remember an incident that happened some few years back, I was on my way to work and I boarded a bus, as we were driving on the highway a passenger informed our driver that there was heavy traffic ahead that a truck had an accident and the road was blocked, our driver on hearing that immediately wanted to make a turn without even looking at the rear mirror if another vehicle was coming behind, as he turned the vehicle behind us ran into us. Our driver came down and pleaded with the man that he knew he was at fault and that he would pay for the damages, but to our greatest surprise the man started ranting and shouting he threaten to beat up our driver and smash our bus, I thought it was just a mere threat since he was angry. People begged the man but he was till raging before we knew what was happening he brought out the Jack from his car and started smashing our bus and even broke the windshield and hit our driver with the Jack and broke his head. The Police arrived and calmed the situation, we all went to the Police station so they could take down our statement and after some weeks the case was taken to court, the man was found guilty of volient conduct, endangering the lives of others and attempted murder, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

When I recalled this incident I felt sad because if he had listened to us while we were begging him, he would not land himself in this mess, the damages on his car was just a minor one which would have been handled, but his anger cost him his freedom.
When we find ourselves in situations that we know would make us loose our heads we should leave that environment and maybe take up the issue later by this time our anger would have reduced.
When angry you can take a deep breath before saying anything, because we can hurt people with our words. We should also remember that violence is to a solution to any situation, instead we should try and engage in a dialogue. We should learn to handle situations in a diplomatic way.

If you can not handle your anger, it is better you meet a counselor who would help with some anger management classes or exercises.
Anger can cost us so many things if do not handle it well, as humans we will always find ourselves in situations and places that will lead to us being angry but we should also remember the law will not pardon you because you were angry, we should always think before we act, imagine the consequences of the actions you are about to take when angry.
