POB-WOTW. An interesting story from the Bible

People often underestimate the power behind togetherness, agreement and determination, when even the Almighty God knows that nothing can stop men when they come together with the aim of achieving a common goal. Join me as I paint a clear picture of what happened in the book of Genesis chapter 11 and verses 1 to 9. I would also point out the relation between the story and the four words of the week.

Genesis 11:1-4

1 Now the whole world had one language and a common speech.
2 As people moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there.
3 They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar.
4 Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.

This relates well with the word HIVE, showing the level of understanding people had, as they all spoke the same language. This brought about agreement and determination to build a tower that was meant to reach heaven. Everyone got themselves busy, working harmoniously. The fact that they were determined made them unstoppable.

Genesis 11:5-7

5 But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building.
6 The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language, they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.
7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.

This shows how much they were able to accomplish, when God saw what they were building, he knew nothing would stop men from what they are determined to do as long as they all work in one understanding. They were stronger working together, so strong that in other to stop them, God had to create a weakness in their understanding by disbanding their language and setting confusion amidst them.

Genesis 11:8-9

8 So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city.
9 That is why it was called Babel because there, the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth.

Frailty sets in as they could no longer understand one another, this was the beginning of diversity in language, in human race. Weakness through communication in their various languages lead to discord which ended the building project and lastly malice thereby making them to depart and scatter across the earth.

NOTE:- Verse 2 stated that they journeyed together, they also found a land in Shinar and dwelt there. All they did was together, but after they developed weakness and natured disagreement, in verse 9 they no longer moved together, they scattered and could no longer accomplish something that great together ever again.

Morals

  • Together, we stand and Divided, we fall.
  • Until we develop weakness in communication, backbite, envy and so on among ourselves, no enemy would be able to stop us.
  • Not being able to agree will only hinder progress and great accomplishments.

Summary and Conclusion

My entry for the pob-wotw contest reviews a story from the Bible of how people were able to attain so much in one voice and appeared unstoppable until disagreement became their weakness which lead to their departure without an accomplished goal.

KEYWORDS

  • One voice (HIVE)
