Black Trumpets!

Black Trumpets

Happy Friday and Happy #fungifriday 🍄🙂

Had an awesome mushroom foraging hike! Returned to a spot I harvested a few chantrelles and black trumpet mushrooms (also known as black chantrelles).

Stack of foraged mushrooms

This is the most mushrooms I have ever foraged at one location. The location was a public forest preserve in southern Addison County, Vermont. Many townships in Vermont have small town forests or forest preserves.

Black Trumpets in moss

There were so many black trumpets I could have harvested even more.

Official Weigh-In

My harvest was 273 grams and included a few chantrelles.

Foraging tote

I use the fabric tote and a sharp knife when foraging.

Foraging Basket

I have a beautiful foraging basket made locally made by Naturally Inspired a "truly exceptional made-in-Vermont product". https://naturallyinspiredbaskets.com/index But its so beautiful, I leave it hanging in my entryway for home decor 😊

Orange fungi on log

I found lots of other fungi also. Like this small orange mushoom.

Since I'm a relatively new forager, I stick to mushrooms I know well enough to easily idientify. And then usually take them by a friends house for "expert" confirmation.

Coral mushroom

Here's some nice coral mushrooms.

Forest floor

The forest floor was damp as you can see from the moss. And there were a large variety of mushrooms.

Green Trumpets?

The filtered sunlight led to some funky photos 😁 These black trumpets appeared almost green. I did not edit any of the photos in this post.

God reveals mushrooms lol

This is one of my favorite shots from the trip. The small spotlight of sunlight appears to be revealing the black trumpets as if by Devine intervention 🤣

Mushroom in the shadows

Here's another type of mushroom.

Two types of mushrooms

As you can see, they were mixed in with the black trumpets.

Twins

I think these mushrooms are twins lol

Red mushroom

Maybe these are bolete mushrooms? I didn't collect any and am now just guessing based on the picture and google.

Red mushrooms

There were quite a few, whatever they are 🤷‍♂️

Shelf mushroom

I also noticed these shelf mushrooms also at the base of a tree.

Sorting and cleaning

Ok. Finally got back home. What a wonderful trip! Best foraging luck I have ever had 🙂

The take

Hand for scale.

Ready for cooking

Sorted out some of the larger ones for later and sauteed up the smaller ones. You can see the couple of chantrelles clearly now.

Plated

We celebrated with a nice steak and some homemade mashed potatoes. Some people say black trumpets won't hold up to red meat but I enjoyed the combo. But I do admit, the best flavor combo was mixing the mushrooms in with the mashed potatoes.

Happy #fungifriday everyone! Have a great weekend.
