Wednesday Walking Upon Miller Bluff

For this week's #wednesdaywalk, I decided to hike a new trail that scaled to the top of a nearby bluff. The bluff is called Miller Bluff; historically, one had to traverse quasi-private/public land to get to the top. Today, there is a new public access trail that scales the geological structure. With temps a bit cooler today, I figured today was the perfect day to try out the new trail

This one started at 735 feet above sea level, and then ascended to a peak 1202 feet above sea level. Not quite Everest, but still a good hike to get the morning started.

The highlight of the hike was a newly found rock cropping. There are quite a few of these in the bluffs in this area, and this one is one I've never seen before. Thanks to the new trail, there are more fae homes to explore with my daughter!

Rocks weren't the only fun things on this walk to find. I also found another decayed birch tree riddled with woodpecker marks:

Another black cap beginning its descent into decay:

An old tree along the way:

I tried to get a "belated" summer solstice shot of the sunrise once I peaked the bluffed, but the trees were in the way. The gnats were awful, too. Around I turned and fled back down the trail to the parking lot below.

On the way back down, I noticed a section of the trail that had that "old rock/earth" feel to them. You know that feeling, too, I'm sure; it's when you scramble over rocks that feel ancient. There is no give to them, they are craggy, and your joints/knees can feel their antiquity when you walk over them. It's almost like you can feel the old Earth when you connect with them.

Don't mind the skinny ankles!

Thanks for stopping by to check out my #wednesdaywalk! I hope everyone else had a wonderful Wednesday too; until next week!
