Highway Travel ~ Original Haiku

I had to do some driving on the highway the other day. Afterwards, I penned this.

highway driving...
I'd rather ride
the train

Driving on the Japanese highway is about the same as driving on the US highway. The road isn't as straight, with more turns forcing one to pay more attention than on a US highway, which is both good and bad. There is less or no shoulder to the roads, making it sometimes feel a little more tight.

I don't know what it is exactly, but ever since the pandemic started, it seems like people drive worse. Like they are in too much of a hurry for some reason. There is more cutting off, more sudden lane changes, etc. From my friends in the States it seems to be just crazy over there right now, with accidents sharply increasing due to the increasingly reckless driving. I don't know the stats here, but it doesn't quite feel that bad. Yet... driving just feels worse than it did before.

I used to enjoy driving. These days it just makes me stressed. Maybe I'm getting older or maybe this pandemic changed something in the way people drive that just doesn't agree with me. Either way, I'd rather just sit back in a train seat and chill out. Depending on the train, I can even drink a beer while sitting there. That's definitely the better way to travel!
