It's so hot! ~ Original Haiku

A haiku I wrote the other day

it's so hot
everyone says as they
pass me by

Japan is going through a bit of a heatwave right now. Every day for the past few days has been in the high 30s, close to 40 in especially hot areas. My instagram is full of Japanese friends showing temperature readings in cars that are well above 40. (To my American friends: 30 is around 86 Fahrenheit, and 40 is above 100)

Even in mild weather, one phrase you will hear so many times that you will quickly memorize it is atsui desu ne or variations on it: It's hot, isn't it? You might imagine how often one can hear it now. I was sitting at an outdoor table at a cafe, not really enjoying the heat, but enjoying it more than the ice cold air condition that was set far far too low inside. While I sipped my coffee, I watched the people going by, all of them complaining to each other about how hot it was. I put down my coffee, pulled out a notecard, and wrote the above haiku.
