"Mama, take good care of yourself and Adamma my sister, if you need anything, do not hesitate to tell me through the phone. Also, when the payment of Adamma's school fees is due, let me know since Papa has refused to contribute just because we refused him from enrolling her in a public school". These were the words of Udoka to his mom as he prepares to leave for Lagos. The mum prayed for safe trip and also for God's favour upon his busines. On getting up from his knees, he said to his sister "Adamma, I will surely miss you, take care of mama and Papa. Don't forget what we discussed last night, always focus on your book and don't let any of these jobless young boys in the village distract you. Stay committed in what you doing, if you need anything, always let me know." "Thank you brother, safe journey, I will miss you too o". Adamma replied. They all waved him goodbye as he enters taxi that will take him to the park.
Udoka's trip was a success. Being a hardworking young man, Udoka resumed his business the next day. The love for his family has always been the driving force in all his endavours. He's ever ready to sacrifice his comfort for the comfort of his family. Udoka tasted suffering at the age of 14 when he was taking to Lagos for apprenticeship. His experience during the period of his serving made him resolve to do everything within his power to cater for his family, as he wouldn't stand seeing any member of his family go through what he went through.
Udoka kept to his resolution, as he financed his sister's education through to the university level.
While in the university, Adamma went into relationship with Micheal, her coursemate. On finding out, Udoka called her and told her to be careful and stay committed to her studies. But she told him that Micheal is just her friend. However, her behaviour towards Micheal says otherwise. Noticing some changes in Adamma's way of life ever since she met Micheal, Udoka did his best to put an end to their relationship but his actions were of no yield. He gave up but before that he warned his sister not to get him involved if their relationship results to anything.
On finishing her final year exams, Adamma called Udoka telling him that she won't be coming home immediately, stating that she needs to rest a little before coming home finally. However it was part of her plan to buy more time with Micheal. On one faithful Friday night, Adamma went to the club with Micheal — something she has been doing, on coming back, they had an accident where she sustained severe spine injury while Micheal's was just a minor scratch. Upon regaining consciousness, she was calling and screaming for Micheal, but was told by the nurses that she was brought to the hospital all alone. She was so pained by this but the nurses helped in calming her down.
"Ma'am, you need to pay at least half of your hospital bill before we can start proper treatment." The doctor said to her. "Who should I call? Udoka is the only person I have, I know I have offended him. Will he even pick my calls?" She pondered in her mind. To her greatest surprise, Udoka accepted to pay the hospital bill at once. She was speechless to her brother's action and could only say to herself "I now know that family is everything. Blood they say is thicker than water."
