Shattered Wish

Tyler Lastovich

Alice lived in the little village of Grace with her father who was a hunter. Weird name for a village right? but they had all they wanted. Well maybe everyone in the village except Alice. Her one wish was to be with her mother and receive the motherly love she never got while growing up but it seemed that wish was almost impossible to accomplish and despite her efforts to convince her father about bringing her mother back, all was fruitless.

Instead, her father wanted to marry another woman to become a mother figure for her. Alice did not care for a mother figure, she wanted her mother and nothing more. She never knew her mother for one day but only heard stories of how her mother left her as a three-month-old baby.

Bianca, the woman her father wanted to marry, was indeed a stunning lady who had always wanted to win Alice's heart by getting her different gifts of wrappers, sweets and waist beads. But nothing seemed to entice Alice as she was hell-bent on getting her mother back. Being the only child and growing up with her father who spent more of his time in the bush than being at home made Alice a spoilt brat and even though she refused to admit to it, she was indeed one.

So, in her quest to rebel against her father marrying Bianca, Alice thought it would be wise of her to wander into the forest. She knew her father would be so worried and would come looking for her as an only child and she would make a condition for him not to marry Bianca and that was the only way she would return to the house. Of course, she didn't go through her plans well as she never knew the forest was a scary place to be in. Echoes of birds chirping in the forest could be heard.

The air turned foggy and black around her and she then knew it was going to rain. Not prepared for what was to come, it started pouring heavily and it seemed as if she could hear both tears and laughter in the forest and people calling her name. She was so scared that she started running and the only thing that could be heard was the sound of her feet amidst the puddle of water that was created by the rain and she started making splashes as she tried so hard to find her way out of that dreaded place.

Cold and wet, exhausted, she made her way along the path through the forest. She was so exhausted because her plan failed so badly. On getting home, she saw her father with a very worried Bianca panicking. She rushed over to them and hugged them and explained to her father what had happened. She promised to bless his union with Bianca and would wait until the day she has the opportunity to come across her mother.
