Bruno's Resolution//The inkwell writing prompt

Bruno, a once successful engineer became a drunkard a few months after he lost his wife. Moving on was something he found so difficult to do, they had dreams, she was his best friend, a wife, and all and all of a sudden she stopped to exist. He felt drinking to stupor was the best way to forget about her memories for a while so he could enjoy the peace he needed. This continued for about 4 years, Nathan his friend had tried to talk him out of drinking but Bruno listened to no one.

"Your life has become worse than it was before now" Nathan told him, "I may not understand how you feel but this decision isn't the best that you've taken," he added.

Bruno would only sip from the bottle of alcohol he held firmly without saying a word.

One faithful day, Bruno was passing beside a church staggering when a message seemed to echo into his ears. He wasn't sure if he had heard the preacher right, but something kept pushing him to join the service. It was 11:30 PM on December 31, just a few minutes before the new year. He swayed from one side to another trying to maintain position as he walked into the church. People who knew him were amazed, no one thought he would ever come to church again.

"It doesn't matter what you've lost in the past, it doesn't matter what has become of your life, God is saying, He is able to turn your life around and give you peace" the pastor said from the pulpit.

Bruno though was tipsy, those words continue to echo in his heart, the sermon continued and it was as if the minister was telling his story. He started to sob quietly, it was then his eyes became opened to how he had wasted his life drinking.

"I don't know how many people I have disappointed with this lifestyle of mine" he said as he wept.

"Pray to God for what you want this year, and see God changing your life" the preacher said immediately as it clocked 12:00 AM crossing into the new year.

Bruno kneed down and said a simple prayer;

" Dear Lord, I come to you today as a broken man. Heal me from the pain of the past, give me strength to move on and help me to realize what I need to do to become a better man. I want to be a blessing to others who depend on me. From this day I ceased to drink, rather, I will take responsibility to be a better man. Help me Lord"

Suddenly it felt like he was a new Man, all his pain gone. He wasn't going back to his old life, he had wasted a lot of years remaining in pain and now was the time to forge ahead and pursue his one time goals.
