Sacred desert// The Inkwell Writing Prompt

Aladdin opened his eyes slowly, allowing them time to adjust to the blinding light ray. His body was covered with sand and all he could see from afar was a sand dune and what looked like dried bones sparsely distributed in the field. He remembered why he was there, to search for a fortune, but wondered how he got sucked in the sand. He became alerted when he touched his pocket and realized it was empty.

"Where is my purse?" He mumbled as he struggled to get on his feet. His body was sore as if beaten with a log of wood. Barbara, the chief priest, had told him the only way to get to his fortune was through the map which he had placed in his purse.

The journey was getting longer and discomforting than he had expected. He wondered how the others had survived, *if not for the dust storm, he still should have some water and food" he thought as he wandered through the desert. He perceived what looked like a map, "that must be it" he said dashing toward the direction but saw the torn up pieces scattered closely. He gathered them matching the pieces together hoping to get the spot where the fortune lies. He cursed as he observed the part where the spot to the fortune was missing. He looked around a few more times searching for the missing part and sat near a shrub that barely covered him from the burning sunlight feeling exhausted.

The feeling of regret overshadowed him. He had gone too far to turn back on the journey, he may not even survive it left with no food and water. "It's better that I die trying than go back to my life of poverty or die trying to give up," he said. A few minutes later, he saw the last piece buried in the sand where he was sitting, he smiled broadly, "the gods are with me" he said. He gathered it and placed it on the map , shocked at what he saw. The small piece of paper that contained his future was at the same spot where the dust storm had covered him, he had only walked 10km in vain, but he was happy to finally know the spot.

It was dusk, he was thirsty and hungry. He was holding the fortune paper in his hands afraid to open it, just a few people have walked this path and had good fortune.

Aladdin, a man of bravery and courage

The letter read

You have a great future ahead of you, you'll be a leader of the Caribbean in a few years to come. You'll be rich but you'll die after 10 years of your reign. Make an impact while in position. Goodbye mighty Aladdin.

The fortune paper shivered vigorously in his hands. He was dazed whether to rejoice at his fortune telling or become sad but he was satisfied that his future was bright, at least he had 10 years to enjoy abundance.
