The ink well fiction/ Will tomorrow ever come?

"It sounds easy how we make promises of accomplishing a little task tomorrow, thinking it will not come on time but amazingly, we watch seconds turn into minutes and minutes into hours and then hours turn to become a day, then we realize how close tomorrow is to us."

Yemi has been a wonderful child at the age of 9, her father has always made promises to her telling her how he will buy one thing or the other tomorrow.

He comes back from work day after day without getting what he promised.

Was it intentional?

Yemi's father is a contractor who travels around the country to accomplish most of the contracts awarded to him, he is amazing at what he does and keeps promises on accomplishing tasks, he gives dates and makes sure any task is achieved on or before that day without failure.

But why then is it difficult to accomplish that of his child?

Maybe because they are little things that don't matter or maybe it's not worth it because there is no monetary value attached to it. There are so many things to think of, Yemi has always endured all failed promises made by her Dad.

But then he made a promise that stuck in Yemi's head.

That fateful day he came back from work and good news struck the house as Yemi was awarded a scholarship from her school to be sponsored throughout her primary and college education when she won a spelling bee competition. Where she emerged as the winner making the school proud and popular.

" What do you want from me? He asked her.

I want you to celebrate with me on my 10th birthday, sure he responded to that request. I will be there.

I know I have failed in so many others that are gone but I promise to be available when you will be celebrating this one.

Is that all he enquired still expecting she will make more requests but to his greatest surprise it's a "YES" that all I want from you?

It looked like it was far but then again, seconds turned into minutes, minutes into hours, hours into days, days into weeks, weeks into months and months turned to be a year and it came again how fast time flies.

The day is almost here and all Yemi wants is to celebrate with her father being present.

But then again Yemi's father got a contract worth millions of dollars that needs to be accomplished on the day Yemi will be celebrating her birthday. He never wanted to disappoint her again so he thought of how best to go with the plan of being present when she will be celebrating.

But all ideas failed him as nothing tangible was forthcoming.

Yemi already invited all her friends from school.

Tomorrow is going to be great. She ran to her Dad giving him a warm hug as he returned from work.

Yeah, he replied to her bringing forth a fake smile.

Tomorrow is pregnant; it either gives birth to sadness or happiness.

What do you think will be the outcome of tomorrow?
