The Ink Well Prompt #54 || No Tomorrow

THIS IS A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT; We are sad to announce that asteroids are heading towards the earth and all countermeasures against it have proven abortive.

Please be aware that if it hits, today might be our last day on earth, so live today like there is no tomorrow because there most likely wouldn’t be.

Julius couldn’t believe his ears after hearing the announcement from the radio, he kept on replaying the broadcast over and over again trying to figure out if it was a joke, and found himself glancing at the calendar to see if it was April's 1st.

"The world couldn’t possibly be ending right?" He thought to himself

He picked up his phone, clicked on Facebook and all he could see were people panicking, confessing, writing apology notes, and saying goodbye.

“This is crazy,” he said out loud

Julius really couldn’t believe that the world was going to be ending in a few hours and he thought about all the things he hadn’t achieved and all the plans he had made.

He had always planned that he would get married and travel the world with his partner before he died, but by the looks of it, he wouldn’t even have the chance to get married.

After a few hours of wallowing in his regrets, he decided that the one thing that he wanted to do before the world ended was to reconcile with his brother.

He and his brother hadn’t spoken for almost 10 years due to a fallout they had when their father died and for Julius, he couldn’t imagine the world ending in those circumstances.

He took a deep breath and dialed his brother’s number and after a few rings, his brother picked up the call.

They spent hours reminiscing about their childhood, their memories, and ended the call with a goodbye.

In Julius' head, he was fulfilled knowing that he had fixed his relationship with his brother and he didn’t mind dying at this point, so he had his favorite meal and went to bed.

He was awakened to a new broadcast message that got him laughing hysterically, apparently, there was a mistake in the NASA office made by some interns and the world wasn’t ending anytime soon.

He shook his head while imagining all the drama that would unfold but the one thing that made him happy regardless of everything was that he had his brother back and that gave him bliss.

THE END
