The Escape-Inkwell prompt: Frequency

I am a smart girl but people only saw my beauty. We lived in “Mones”, a village who told stories about one-eyed humans living in a sub-world within our own world. They made themselves invisible through magic so as not to be hunted down by humans for being different. They could travel to our world through an invisible gate whenever they wanted. They didn’t follow the rules of conduct for their own good. What they liked was to steal beautiful girls in their prime and take them as their wives and have children with them. At least that’s what we heard in stories about them, about beautiful girls taken never to return back to their homes. They also liked to steal soil from the mountain tops. We didn’t know what they did with the soil but we noticed that the soil from the ground on mountain tops was gone and they were seen to take the soil to their own world. Maybe they made something from the soil, like tools or maybe they used it in magic. We didn’t know.

From a young age, I was told that my beauty is mesmerizing. I was not afraid of those one-eyed humans unlike the other girls of my village. I got older and got more beautiful. I was in my prime, about 22 years when I was chosen as the most beautiful girl of the village in a yearly festival held at my village. One year later, I got engaged to Noah, a handsome man from our village. I was happy to have found him and couldn’t wait for our wedding party.

On my 24th birthday, something horrifying happened. It was a busy day and so many of my family members, cousins and friends have gathered around. I was doing make up and a big mirror was in front of me, and I was sitting on a chair. I was preparing myself and getting dressed that suddenly there was silence in the room. My mother was frightened and was looking towards the door. Everyone stopped talking. I saw in the mirror the reflection of a tall muscular human with a black coat and black pants who had one eye at the center of his forehead.

My eyes got wide with fear…

“We want to take her with us, she is ours now,” the man said with a scratchy whisper.

Before I knew it, he took my hands. I didn’t want to go with him, I resisted. He had a white horse. He put me on the horse. I was shouting for help. I saw my mother crying and my father and Noah stopped by other of his kind. He kept telling me to keep my mouth shut.

“If you shout one more time, I won’t let you see the light of days. I will make you a prisoner for the rest of your life,” the man said with so much hate and anger trying to make me shut up.

After riding for some time we crossed an invisible gate and entered their world. He put me inside an old and humid underground jail cell.

“You will stay here until your times come,” the man said expecting me to follow his order like a soldier.

I saw five other girls just like me in cells and an old woman.
“What is your name?” The old woman asked me.

I am Sama from the village of Mones,” I replied.

“My name is Violeta, they kept me prisoner because I refused to get married to one of them. I am here for a long time until I die, they are having a feast with you girls” she said. She had rusty nails, old clothing and her left eye was blind.

“Do you know a way to escape this jail?” I asked Violeta.

“You have to find a black door that lets you connect with an entity called “Mama Mosa”. Mama Mosa lives in a lower frequency world, you have to knock on the black door three times and recite a poem in a whisper at 3 o’clock when the line between our world and the Mama Mosa’s world becomes thin. If she agrees to scream angrily for your freedom, you will go home, you will be free, if not you will become the wife of one of the one eyed humans. One-eyed humans are sensitive to Mama Mosa’s screams, it goes from their ears to their eyes, from which their magic comes from. It can make them blind. Also, Mama Mosa has a magical ring, this ring lets her stay in that low frequency world. It’s a thin world between Djinn’s world and the one-eyed humans. I wasn’t able to do it myself, but maybe you can. She can help you. All of their houses is connected to Mama Mosa, they all have a black door. Trust me, they fear her. She can keep you safe. Call Mama Mosa, here you recite this poem:

Mama Mosa come come,
scream from the depth of sun
Mama Mosa come quick
You are the one that I pick

Whisper it to the black door,” Violeta repeated.

Why are one-eyed humans connected to Mama Mosa through a black door?” I asked.

“Because a very long time ago one of the elders of the one-eyed village got into a fight with the Djinn race and they took one of his children as compensation for the trouble they caused them and they brought her to their world. Mama Mosa couldn’t bear to stay in the Djinn world, so she escaped, and her family didn't welcome her, they called her “unclean” because they thought she was touched by the djinn and now she was not one of them and the Djinn didn’t want her either because she has too much magical power. When they took her, her magical powers got activated through her anger and her screams. She is now stuck between our world as in the sub-world of the one eyed humans and the Djinns’ world. She didn’t know she had such immense magical powers. If she goes to the one eyed humans’ world, it endangers them, if she goes to the Djinns' world, it endangers them, so she is stuck and she is angry. Her anger at both of them is massive. That is why they made a portal to make a connection with her through the black door, they steal soil from other worlds and offer it to Mama Mosa and she turns them to gold, only few of the one-eyed humans know the knowledge of how to turn soil to gold. The gold makes her anger extinguished” she replied.

After our conversation, Violeta went into a corner in her cell and murmured the verses of the poem she just told me while looking at the ceiling and kneeling half way down almost crying.

All of a sudden, the door opened and one of one eyed humans appeared at the doorway.

“You, it’s your turn” and pointed to me to come with him.

I knew that it was time for me to go and marry one of the one-eyed humans whose name was Sartos. Sartos lived in a house made out of gold. He was very rich, apparently I was sold to him for a high price. All I could think about was finding the black door. It was my only hope.

I entered the house, it was made from hard stones and decorated with gold. There were rooms all across the hallway and they were numbered. I went to room number 222. I found the black door, a little door decorated with gold at the end of the hallway. It was not far from my room. Sartos looked at me like he was looking at a delicious meal. He told me to get ready for tomorrow because they were having a feast and there was a wedding dress on the bed. He told me to wear it tomorrow night and come downstairs. I lost no time, I waited till it was 3 o’clock to go, I wore the wedding dress and came out of the room. Everywhere was locked except my room which was strange, so I went straight to the black door and I recited the poem.

Suddenly a hand took my hands as I was knocking on the door and soon I found myself in a dark room with red lamp lights. An old woman with so much speed ran from beside me and sat on a rocking chair.

“Welcome child to my humble abode, I am Mama Mosa, what can I do for you?” she asked me.

I immediately felt uneasy, I realized I made a mistake to come here. I was in another world with a different frequency, a lower one, something that didn’t match what I used to. It was like a dark heavy cloud surrounding me. I couldn’t breathe. I went back towards the door but all I saw was a brick wall painted red with red lamps shining in the dark. In that darkness, Mama Mosa was sitting on a rocking chair staring at me being helpless.

“So what brings you here darling, speak to me?” She asked me.

“I came here asking for your help to escape Sartos and the one-eyed humans. Violeta, a woman in the girls’ prison told me about you” I said while looking around distracted by the lamp lights.

“There is no going back from here like that deary, you need to change” she said while smiling softly.

“What do you mean?” I asked her.

Mama Mosa kept silent and kept staring at me, until I felt a blue energy came out from my body and went to hers. I passed out there on the ground. I didn’t know what happened. When I woke up, I was in a hospital looking place and a creature whose legs was like horse’s hoof was attending to me. I slowly opened my eyes. I saw my hands were full of wrinkles, and strangely a mirror was beside my bed. I looked at the mirror and I saw that my face was full of wrinkles as well and I had pains in my legs and my back. That’s when it hit me. She stole my beauty and youth. That was that blue energy all about.

Mama Mosa came to my bed at that moment.

“If you bring and trick another girl into coming here, I will give back your youth and beauty” She said looking straight to my eyes. “It’s time for you to go now, otherwise you can stay and become like us, like me and the other girls, you are no use now to Sartos, you are old, he will send you to the prison”.

"No," I said strictly.

I couldn’t stay there for long. The air there was getting dense. If I stayed, I would have become like Mama Mosa, stuck in between the two worlds. As I was still getting used to my old body, Mama Mosa dragged me on the ground till we reached the black door. She recited a spell in a strange language and I memorized it word by word because I had a good memory. She dumped my old body on the other side. It took me a while to get back up but I finally did it and recited the spell to the black door to get back to Mama Mosa’s side.

Mama Mosa was sleeping in her rocking chair. The first thing I did was to open up the curtains to let the light get in. It was early morning. I shouted to Mama Mosa. She was sensitive to that. Mama Mosa was angry and she told me to stop screaming, but I shouted “I want to be free, I want my youth back” suddenly Mama Mosa started to get weak, because I was from a higher frequency, and the sound of my shouts echoed in the room and made it tremble. She was helpless, so I dragged her to the other side and she couldn’t bear it, she was on fire until she turned into ashes, only her ring remained and the blue energy transferred to my body with her being gone. All the energy she stole got back to their owners and the other girls who were there got back their beauty and youth.

The ring that remained was the ring that Violeta was talking about. I took it and I wanted to put it on my hands that suddenly Sartos who was at the end of the hallway shouted “Don’t put it on your finger”. I didn’t listen and put the ring on. That moment I felt strange, as if I was someone else. A headache came over me, an invisible wall surrounded me. This was the magical ring that let Mama Mosa have power over the one-eyed humans. I put my hands at the direction of Sartos’s eye. He cried and his eye burned and fell on the ground. Me and the other girls found the stable and each took one of the white horses, found the underground prison, saved Violeta and the other girls. We reached the gate and escaped. I still have Mama Mosa’s ring. The one eyed humans never seen in my village again.

The End
