The Opening

Tom was at home working. He was a back-end developer working on a corporate IT system for one of his clients. Suddenly the phone rang. It was his best friend David. David was a finance director at a well-known firm. They had been good friends for a number of years.

"It's happening Tom" said David knowingly.

"What is?" replied Tom.

"It" repeated David.

"No way!" said Tom.

"Finally!" said David.

"So what's the plan David?" said Tom seriously.

"OK, so they are allowing flights from Dublin in Ireland, but the places are limited and VERY expensive at the moment. My friend Paddy has something worked out for us though. All you have to do is get yourself to Dublin. Pack light, but bring everything you might need. Warm clothes, electronic equipment, and of course as much crypto as you can." said Tom assuredly.

The line fell silent while Tom contemplated the instructions from David. This was the moment they had been waiting for since the big reset 3 years ago. This was so exciting and who knew what adventure lay in wait for them.

"Are we flying there?" asked Tom.

"Don't ask me about it on this connection Tom" said David angrily.

The call ended abruptly. Tom had been waiting for this call for so long and now he knew what to do. He closed down his work immediately and checked into his Metamask wallet and hurriedly connected to some of his side-chains to withdraw as much crypto back as he could. He then transferred his wallet onto his secure portable device and was ready.

Next, he looked around him and was spurred into action. He grabbed a bag and packed some clothes. Enough for a week, but he included some warm clothes as he knew how cold and windy Dublin could be.

He checked for flights and then when he found something for that evening, purchased the ticket. It was in 4 hours' time. Tom was pleased but also full of excitement. How were they going to get to the new world, Tom still wasn't sure.

He jumped into his car and headed to the airport. At the airport, Tom had some time to kill so grabbed some food and looked at his phone. He scanned some of the photos David had shared with him in the last months of the new world.

They showed cities and buildings not dissimilar to the world he knew, but the buildings were all immaculate and spectacular in their beauty. It was also rumored that they were hooked up to an ancient but advanced technology.

Tom was looking for adventure. He had done the east and west coast of Australia backpacking. He loved exploring and was hungry for something new. We thought we knew everything and then the new world was discovered he thought to himself.

There was a last call for Tom's flight and he boarded eagerly. Once on board, he got settled and tried to get some sleep. The adrenaline from the reality of the situation was making it difficult. Tom was sweating with the awkward humidity and the crampedness of the airplane.

The flight went quickly and soon Tom was landing. As his airplane started to descend through the thick cloud, Tom could make out parts of Dublin. He could see the Dublin Docks in the city center before the plane swung north towards the airport.

He flew over some of the suburbs before seeing some of the lush green countryside that Ireland is well known for. As the plane descended further towards the airport, Tom noticed the futuristic airplane. That must be the one he thought.

Tom was right. At the airport was the futuristic jet airplane that ran on a kind of technology nobody had seen before. Similar to how Bees are able to fly in perfectly straight lines, these airplanes work in a similar way.

There was speculation amongst the scientific community that they were using electromagnetic waves as envisaged by Nikola Tesla. Since the great reset, science had been turned on its head with the advances in technology and ideas.

Tom left the airplane and headed to the baggage reclaim. Once collected he passed through the exits and was greeted by David.

"That was fast," said David, "but I'm glad you're here" he followed on before hugging his friend very tightly.

"It's good to see you, thanks for sending me the instructions" said Tom.

"It's all good Tom. I've found someone who can guide us in! We're going to the new world" replied David.
