Finding Micheal (a Christmas Story) @sonofremi

Micheal wrote what he wanted for Christmas in his room, the noise of his parents arguing was making it hard for him to enjoy the hoilday, he remembered when they were one big happy family but that seems like decades ago. He carried his wish in a small paper he wrote down and went downstairs to slid it under the Christmas tree. He met his mother on the dinning table smoking a cigar and drinking a glass of whisky, it was obvious that his father had just left and she was left alone to sobe.

Mary looked up her half full glass and saw Micheal smiling and walking towards the Christmas tree as he came down from the stairs. "What you got there, Micheal?", Mary asked. With a wide smile on his face micheal said,"My wish for Santa Claus", Micheal said. Mary his mother burst into an controlable laughter and later said, "Your such a kid, he doesn't even exist". This hurt Micheal alot, he turn his back as he rushed upstairs with tears in his eyes.

In his room Micheal packed a go bag, he said to himself,"he they don't believe me I will show them his real". He took the open map from the table and gave one last look at his room like it was the last time he was ever going to see it. The journey was a long one for a boy of 7 years to go alone, but this holiday was the time he knew he had with both his parents before their separation so he grunted and opened the window in his room and stepped out into the cold night.

Mr Thomas came back home the next day and walked up the stairs straight to Michael's room ignoring his wife Mary in the kitchen. He first knocked on the door but no answer came, then he opened it to find an empty room with an open window. He felt his heart skip a beat as he walked to check the bathroom for Michael, but no one was in the bathroom. With the speed of light he ran down the flight of stairs and walked into the kitchen, "Where is Michael?, it was obvious his wife was still mad with him and was giving him the silent treatment. She continued making pancakes like no one talked to her. Thomas went across the room and forced her to face him,"He then asked again, Mary where is Michael, I can't find him anywhere". Mary became serious from the sound of his voice and let their beef die for a moment,"He's not in his room?" Thomas nodded his head in disapproval, she started to panic as she started to echo her son's name around the house. As her husband picked up the receiver and dialed 911.

The police filled their home now and Mr Thomas and his wife sat down to answer a few questions as officers searched their house for clues. Mary cried and Thomas gave her a hug as he responded to the police questions.

The police was out the door and Thomas and Mary were alone now, with a shaking voice Mary said,"This is all my fault". Thomas looked up at her and said,"Don't say that". She continued,"To think of the last time we spoke, I made fun of him". Thomas seemed interested and said,"Teĺl me exactly what happened". Mary said,"he wanted to make a wish for Santa Claus and I told him that Santa doesn't exist". Thomas ran upstairs in a sudden dash and his wife followed behind, he went through the papers on the table and found another marked map with red marker, it showed be a path that led directly to the North Pole. But this was just half of the map, the other map was missing, he held it in his hands and stared at Mary that entered the room, he then said,"We are going to the North Pole".

The Next day

They boarded a flight straight for Alaska, Thomas held Mary hands on the plane as he noticed she was panicking, she asked him,"What if we don't find our little boy?" Thomas cupped her face and said, "Micheal is strong, am sure he's alright". He then gave her a kiss on the forehead and she fell asleep on his lap as he held her and prayed to God to protect their boy.

They landed in Alaska and started to search for Santa, anybody they asked stared at them with a smile on their face like if it was a prank. They boarded a hotel after their failed attempts to find Santa Claus. They heard a knock on the door and it was room service. It appeared to be an old woman. She pushed the tray and poured hot tea for the couple and sat down. Then she said,"Folks around here said you have been looking for Santa Claus". Thomas looked up from his cup of tea, interested in what the woman had to say. Then she continued,"Legend has it that there is a house just across the river that is abandoned, it is made of Candy and a toymaker lives there, maybe you might find what you're looking for there". Thomas and Mary thanked the woman as they both leaped for joy and exchanged hugs with each other. They immediately left the hotel in a rental car as they headed to the river in the nearby forest. They got to the frozen water and alighted the car as they walked slowly to the house at the edge of it.

The house looked as if it was made of Candy with different decorations around it, they knocked and a big man with a white beard opened the door. He had a big belly and wore tiny glass.

He smiled at them and called out Micheal at the top of his voice, he ran out with a mouth full of chocolate and said,"Yes Santa". Micheal stared at the door and saw his parents who picked him and picked him up and smothered him in kisses. Micheal had a smile on his face and said,"I told you mummy, his real his really real". His father held his son as he teared up and stared at his wife. Santa then said,"Do you know little Micheal's wish?" Thomas, clearing his throat said,"No, what was it?*", Santa then stared at Micheal and gave him a reassuring nod, then Micheal said,"For Mummy and Daddy to stop fighting". Thomas and Mary looked at eachother, then Thomas gave her a kiss.

They were interrupted by another voice in the room that said,"Who wants cookies?"* The voice came from the old lady from the hotel. Santa stared at her and said, "Thank you Mrs. Claus, that's so thoughtful of you". It appeared to be that she was Santa's wife, Jessica. What a Christmas Miracle.

The End.

Happy holidays, I hope you celebrate this festive season with love and family, Merry Christmas
