Opening
The PTR for the new set will hit in a day from now so i thought i would share the decks that i might build and try
I'll only focus on magic here even though death anubians is looking 'juicy'
Magic
Before we go into the builds i would like to briefly talk about the new mechanics specifically Empower and Echo and how they can gain an advantage for magic
For Empower my first thought was to reduce the cost of a card then Empower it this way you gain access to higher mana cost card early in the game that can patiently wreak havoc
but sadly looking at the Empower cards non can greatly benefit from this, maybe they saw this coming?.
as for Echo it can help with clogging your hand much faster which is something that Dragon decks can benefit from,
the flexibility is also there.
PTR
1) Frumentarii Researcher deck
seeing as most of the new magic cards are mystic tribe and with the new mechanic Echo i think it's time to finally blow the dust off from Frumentarii Researcher,
8 cards (16 mystic cards with Echo) that's alot if anyone wants to meme with this card now is the time
we all thought light was the way with this one but no sadly there is no light mystic this set unlike magic
i think now this card is viable and can be played.
2) 1 health deck?
there is a new archetype lurking around in this new set that i can't wait to try,
There is a alot of spells and creatures with 1 health that cost 1 mana
so with alastrina you can get bunch of 0 cost cards combined with SSST and The Academy you can set up for nice combos,
and notice how SSST says summon, so each time you play a card and it summons a creature you deal 4 damage
it's hard to go into much detail without trying the new cards,
so i'll be mostly focusing on this build in the PTR and just play around and see how it works
3) more structures......
as much as i hate this archetype i think the new card museum infusion with Fortified Acropolis is worth visiting,
10 damage to face is tempting....
also the new legendary Nivos can see play here
Conclusion
in the end lots of theorycrafting needs to be done and 2 days of testing isn't enough to go through everything and looking at the new set it's filled with aggro cards so it's hard to imagine any control/slow cards making it into the competitive scene but we will see.
