Purple Original Character Artwork (NFT series part-2)

Finished drawing my second NFT artwork last night and I named her Purple!

So after completing my Ava OC I started working on Purple the next day itself. The name formation of this OC is pretty simple because if you mix red and blue you get Purple. I definitely didn't want to waste too much time on the nomenclature. I still need to make 8 more NFTs and time is of the essence. My first OC was an adult woman so I thought this time I should draw someone cute, young and having some fun so I came up with this idea. Luckily I already selected some potential pose references from Pinterest last time so I didn't waste any time searching for them again.

My top style preference for drawing is always in anime style because my first anime was Dragonball but I didn't know that it was from Japan and it was called anime at that time. After joining college I found out more about these and was amazed to find out that they offer a wide range of genres. The animation style varies a bit depending on the team behind it so it's always great to see something new. I instantly fell in love with the animation quality after seeing 'Your Name' anime movie. I still feel like it's one of the best animated movies from Japan. Ever since then I started to study that style and now here I'm making characters based on that style adding my own style to it so goal achieved!

The process

I made a rough lineart with 2B pencil on a notebook as usual. So the character I'm gonna draw is young so by anime-style standards young characters are represented by big eyes. So I drew her in that way but as for her lips, I drew them exactly as I saw in the reference image. It was quite quirky so I decided to keep it.

After making the digital lineart on Ibis x paint I also added a chilli hair band on her head and the Mascot on her hand like she is holding it. The hand pose looked empty to me without it so I improvised. After finishing the lineart I painted it based on colours as shown in the image above.

I worked on her clothes first. Added highlights and shadows according to the source of light which is from the top side.

I worked on her eyes next because the eyes without pupils were freaking me out haha. I added highlights and shadows to it and then made a wave-like pattern on the glossy area of the eye. I thought it was better to do the Mascot and chilli hairband as well so painted them too while painting the eyes.

Next thing was to paint the body. There were only small areas to paint as her body is mostly covered by her T-shirt. So painted them on the same layer as the eyes.

The final step and my favourite step is to paint the hair. I chose blue because it goes well with pink. Added shades with the help of an airbrush and dip pen on the lower side. Added highlights on the upper side using a dip pen and airbrush on a glow layer.

As for the background, I tried out several ideas. You can see them on the timelapse gif I included below. The token logo was the one I chose for the background as the final. I made it using a polyline tool with orange colour with 20% fill opacity.

Alright then, I need to work on another one this evening so I'll be back soon. Bye for now :)
