STREET ART #124 – Graffiti in Karolinelund (Denmark)

1.JPG

In the city of Aalborg there is a park called Karolinelund, which is located in the center of the city. It used to be an amusement park – a Tivoli of the old fashion type, like Tivoli in Copenhagen. It closed down in 2010, but in resent years it has become a popular park for street artist to decorate the walls, both on the inside and outside.

The park has become a more of a cultural park and recreational area. Conserts, events and art exhibitions are also held here. There is work going on in order to recreated streams that used to be there. The park is surrounded by a concrete wall that has grafitti both on the inside and the outside walls.

I have been walking along the wall on the inside and then the outside. Since the wall is concrete (grey) I think it looks much better with the grafitti. I did see signatures of artists, but don't know much about them.

It seems the artists must have run out of space, so they just as well decorate the buildings, stairs, benches etc. We even saw garbage cans and containers absolutely covered in colorful grafitti. I haven't been to the park recently because of renovation, so I don't know if the houses are still there. But, I will have to have a look next time I am in Aalborg.
