Voici mon entrée pour l'édition de cette semaine du CCC's Street Art Contest #91 avec cette magnifique murale faite par les artistes Gene Pendon & Bryan Beyung aux portes du quartier chinois à Montréal :
May An Old Song Open a New World, mural painted in 2015 next to the North Arch of Chinatown on Saint Laurent Boulevard by two Montreal artists of Asian origin commissioned to rehabilitate tourism in Chinatown. Not easy to take a picture without a car as it's located on a 6 lane road.
Qu'une vieille chanson ouvre un nouveau monde murale peinte en 2015 à côté de l'arche nord du quartier chinois sur le boulevard Saint Laurent par deux artistes montréalais d’origine asiatique commandée pour réhabiliter le tourisme dans le Quartier chinois. Pas facile de prendre une photo sans voiture car elle se situe sur un boulevard à 6 voies.

Gene Pendon
Chinese opera singer.
Chanteuse d'opéra chinois.
Gene Pendon was born in 1971 in Ottawa. He studied at Concordia University in Montreal and graduated in Painting and Drawing in 1991. Since then, he has been based in Montreal where he has created many murals often for Mu Montreal like this mural. He's one of the founders of Heavyweight: HVW8, an art gallery and music production company based in Los Angeles, Berlin and Montreal.
Gene Pendon est né en 1971 à Ottawa. Il a fait ses études à l'Université Concordia à Montréal pour obtenir son diplôme en Peinture et Dessin en 1991. Depuis, il est basé à Montréal ou il a réalisé de nombreuses murales souvent pour l'organisme Mu Montreal comme pour cette murale. Il est un des fondateurs de Heavyweight : HVW8, une galerie d'art et une maison de production de musique basée Los Angeles, Berlin et Montréal.

May An Old Song Open a New World
This mural represents a Chinese opera singer with a beautiful fleur-de-lis hanging from her dress on a red background (synonymous with prosperity and courage). The white lines draw two masks, one to optimism and the other to nostalgia, feelings when immigrating to a new country. Behind the singer is the symbol of unity, the white circle.
Cette murale représente une chanteau d'opéra chinois avec une très belle fleur de lys accrochée à son habit sur un fond rouge (synonyme de prospérité et de courage). Les lignes blanches dessinent deux masques l'un à l'optimisme et l'autre à la nostalgie, sentiments quand on immigre dans un nouveau pays. Derrière la chanteuse, il s'agit du symbole de l'unité, le cercle blanc.
I'm not too happy with my photos. There is room for improvement as my teachers used to say.
Je ne suis pas trop content de mes photos. Il y a de la place pour l'amélioration comme disaient mes professeurs. 😀
