Giant Fox in Mexico City Unchanged After Years [CCC's Street Art Contest #130]

Back in 2018 I happened to be passing by a huge mural in the Doctores neighborhood of Mexico City. To be precise, it was the corner of Av. Niños Héroes and Av. Dr. Río de la Loza. The wall painting was the image of a huge fox, made up of angular bits, which gave him an interesting, life-like appearance. The flower in front of it kinda reminds me of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's Little Prince, though I may be just jumping to conclusions here.

Postponed Post due to Vandalism

I took a photo of it, thinking that I may post it for the weekly CCC Street Art Contest I like to participate in. Stop, scratch that! I believe back then this contest was not even a thing yet. Still, I had my own series of posts of awesome Mexican Murals, since Mexico is just such a never abating gold mine for cool looking murals of all sizes. But then, I ended up not posting it, ever. I guess I didn't like the horrible graffiti tags covering the bottom section of the image. (Okay, I must admit, I didn't even bother evaluating the tags. Their placed position already disqualifies them!)

A Resilient Image

As the years passed, I didn't even venture into that area, and I always had other murals that I preferred posting... until a couple of weeks ago. I was amazed to see the fox still there. Knowing how one simple tag tends to invite many others, until whatever image that wall may have had on it is completely covered. But not here! This may be due to the inaccessibility of the upper two-thirds of the wall. But that's not all that has improved on this corner. Apart from having the tags painted over, there seems to be more bushes too, along with a pedestrian friendly sidewalk, which in Mexico City deserves at least a mention.

A Well Known Artist

Probably due to good fortsight, the artist didn't place his name in the bottom corner, where it would have been covered by the tags, but right on top, where it can be easily identified. And thus I could find him quite easily online. Aletss_Murdoc is a muralist based in Austin, TX, who painted this fox for the kids in the Escuela Secundaria Revolución, to which the wall belongs to. Though I usually only like to use my own photos in this series, I decided to share a screen shot from the artist's page of when the mural was just completed. This way you can see what it used to look like. But for the CCC contest, I want to use the most recent one.
