El día domingo la carrera del mexicano comenzaba complicada, al tener que partir de la cuarta plaza por detrás de su compañero de equipo y los hombres de Ferrari. En una decisión muy inteligente del ingeniero del mexicano tras llamarlo durante Safety Car para ponerle medios nuevos, parecía que la carrera se le ponía de cara, pero el problema persistía y tras la reanudación de la marcha, el RB18 era incapaz de sobrepasar al Ferrari, que en el fin de semana no tenía la velocidad punta más alta. El piloto de Guadalajara definió este hecho como un desastre y en sus palabras dijo “Tenía demasiado déficit en el motor y por más que intentaba empujaba mucho en curva y sobrecalenté neumáticos. Analizando la situación, pienso en el caso del MP4-20 un monoplaza con un ritmo bestial pero muy frágil, ya Red Bull ha contado con varios incidentes y podría hacer mucha mella en el campeonato. En cuanto a la carrera de Checo pienso que pudo haber quedado tercero, no creo que el ritmo le alcanzara para superar a Charles que junto a Max estuvieron en otra liga este fin de semana.
