The World Building Community released a new prompt which asks us to describe some of the slang names for drugs or their users. Here's The Prompt Link.
Some of the names used to describe drugs as a whole would be Drugs, Chems, or Stims. Each name can be used as a blanket term to describe all illegal substances. Most people in the world wouldn't consider alcohol to be a drug. Even though it should be classed with the rest of the known products you can buy throughout the galaxy.
It is the most frequently used and most readily available one out there after all.
Chems
Is mainly used to describe chemicals. Anything that has had to go through a certain process to produce, but, sometimes people wrongly use the term when talking about certain substances.
Drugs
Is the most frequently used blanket term, used to describe anything that can alter one's mental state.
Stims
Are used to describe anything that can stimulate your mind, without altering your mental state in the process. Vits, for example. Would be considered a Stim, as the High Flyers use it to conduct their work. Vits, as a drug is considered highly addictive to any outsiders. Based purely on the High Flyer's need to consume it before taking to the sky.
High Flyers consider it to be the only thing standing between them surviving a run or ending their journey in a ball of flames crashing to the ground.
Vits
Vits is what the High Flyers call it. It's a slang name because it is so ingrained in who they are as an organization. That they consider it to be a Vitamin.
Another word and most commonly used outside of the High Flyers, is Haze. As when it sprays out, it does so in a haze which is then inhaled. Most people steer clear of it because it's cheap and leaves a terrible taste in your mouth. Like copper. It also stains your teeth badly and sometimes even around your lips if you've been using it for too long.
High Flyers
They had been called Flyers by people in Jex who know of them. As you could be sure that they were high if you saw them in the air. This is why they adopted the name and Incorporated it into who they were. Before they were just a Freelance group with no overall identity. Just interested in drugs, speeders and causing trouble.
Once the public started calling them Flyers though, referring to what they most commonly did and to describe their mental state. They added the word High to it. They thought it was funny to be known as this, as High was their altitude and their mental state and so was the name Flyers.
Underworlders
The people who dwell in the underworld are known to get high on anything they can get their hands on, especially if it's cheap. Some people have even been experimenting with mold to find something that they can refine into a drug.
So far, it has left a lot of people down there with a condition which affects the victim's lungs. No one knows if it is contagious and the government of Jex hasn't been putting any research into finding out or helping those affected.
Symptoms include coughing, wheezing, frequent pass-outs caused by lack of oxygen and in some cases, the person can stop breathing in their sleep and die. A medical name for this condition hasn't been put forward. But, the Underworlders call it the Spore Lung, or Mildew Wind.
Most people believe though that this condition isn't from experimenting with mold. Most in the medical world shrug and say "That's what happens when people live in dank conditions." and "If they don't like it, maybe they should leave Underworld."
