Sim: Winter Views of a Small Ural Town, Russia

The Southern Ural is a truly rich region for interesting places, historical sights, and just beautiful nature. Today I would like to share pictures of the small town of Sim named after the river flowing here. As usual, I mark all my posts with sights on the pinmapple mapping service. So, don't forget to look there if you are suddenly going to travel by car in our region.

Южный Урал — богатый край на интересные места, исторические достопримечательности и просто красивую природу. Сегодня я хотел бы поделиться фотографиями небольшого городка Сим, названного по имени протекающей здесь реки. Как обычно, все свои посты с достопримечательностями я отмечаю на карте pinmapple. Так что, не забудьте туда заглянуть, если вдруг соберётесь путешествовать на автомобиле по нашему региону.

Sim is situated in the lowland, between the hills. The federal highway M5 Ural runs through the hills around the town. From the observation deck, which I marked on the map, there are panoramic views. The next three pictures show the whole town, from east to west.

Сим расположен в низине, между холмами. По одному из холмов проходит федеральная трасса М5 Урал, на который есть пара смотровых площадок. С одной из них и открываются панорамные виды. На следующих трёх фотографиях — весь городок, с востока на запад.

The pictures were taken in the early morning on one of the frosty February days, three years ago. The sun has just appeared from behind the hills. It was windless, but quite cold. At other times of the year there is often fog in the lowland, and the town completely disappears, only the chimneys of the local factory remain visible.

Фотографии сделаны ранним утром в один из морозных февральских дней, три года назад. Солнце только что появилось из-за холмов. Было безветрено, но довольно холодно. В другие времена года, в низине часто стоит туман, и город полностью исчезает — остаются видны лишь трубы местного завода.

The following pictures were taken with a telephoto lens. As you can see, the center of the town is built with apartment buildings. However, most of Sim as in most other Ural towns, are occupied by small houses of private construction.

Следующие фотографии сделаны на телеобъектив. Как видите, центр города застроен многоквартирными домами. Однако, большую часть Сима, как и в большинстве других уральских городков, занимает частный сектор.

On the same day, I was returning home by the same road and stopped again not far from Sim. The sun was already setting, and I strolled across the snow-covered field toward the woods.

В тот же день, я возвращался домой этой же дорогой и вновь остановился недалеко от Сима. Солнце уже клонилось к закату, и я прогулялся по заснеженному полю в сторону леса.
